Western Mainlines direct from London to Penzance ...pretty good but...

I have to say that the Western Mainlines distributed by Just Trains is pretty good but be aware that creating your own scenarios can be a very wasted opportunity. The reason why is due to the fact that no computer processing power can ever work a whole route! TS 2019 doesn't like it! I created or tried to create a scenario only from Bristol Temple Meads to Penzance...adding trains for AI and freight trains in the sidings along the route. Not yet finished, but now no longer possible as Train Simulator now crashes going into World editor and messages appear UNKNOWN or ACCESS VIOLATION! I did check out the instructions to update the computer and test the sim, even DTG support are not much help. So now I don't know whether to give up on this game (reluctantly) and forget it ever existed altogether. What would you do? Computers are such a pain in the backside, they really are!

Long routes with plenty of ai and scenery etc. can be demanding and you are right that computers can be a pain at times!

However, are you using the 64 bit version of TS?

Also, how powerful is your computer?

Why are you using the 32 Vice the 64 bit editor?

If you can't use the 64 bit version, I believe turning the scenery settings down can help in the 32bit

I'd suggest that you are adding too much ai on a long route and your pc simply runs out of memory either in 32 or 64 bit. Clone the route without the scenarios and add less ai.

Why are you blaming DTG support? WML is a 3rd party add-on for TS 2019 so shouldn't Just Trains be providing the support!!

Just Trains already supply a scenario Paddington to Penzance (ie full length of the route) so it can be done!!

Thanks all for the advice. I haven't been back to the hobby since my problems. Phase you do have a point but after all it is DTG that 'developed' the sim for JT routes to work in. Cat, not much fun with less AI, though it may help I suppose if it helps run things better. I was told to keep the scenery up jannerdunk. Maybe it could be the 32 bit causing issues with the 64 bit editor but isn't it the 64 bit causing all the problems in the first place for what everyone has been saying? Leadcatcher? Thank you all for your input it has been appreciated.

I doubt any trains run. or ever ran, non-stop Paddington to Penzance. So the sensible thing to do is to create several scenarios, running between each station stop. That's the only way you can possibly have realistic levels of AI traffic.

Apart from the heavy resources drawn by AI traffic, turning down certain settings can help (as has been said). If you are working with a large screen, reducing the screen resolution can also make a significant improvement.

All in all, both the developers of routes like this and us, the end users, are expecting to get much more out of Train Simulator than ever intended by Dovetail. Compromises have to be made to get the desired solution.

Not strictly correct. Although all three trains you mention ran (at some time in their existence) from Paddington to Penzance, none of them ran non-stop between those two places.

At various times, stops were made at Exeter, Newton Abbot (to attach a pilot for Dainton and Rattery banks) and Plymouth as well as stations in Cornwall.

Also, the 'Flying Dutchman' had ceased running before the end of the broad gauge era (in 1892), so cannot be replicated in TS.

They didn't run non-stop though, which was my point. I don't think the Dutchman ever reached Penzance either.

whooooooooooa calm down im stating that these three trains/services run limited stop express London to Penzance, i reckon non stop would have been very difficult, everyone knows that they could not build a loco south of Doncaster that would stay running long enough, although swindon did some lovely paint jobs.
