Suggested PC Specs for running TS
I just got a Best Buy gift card and I want to put it to good use :P. What Specs are suggested for running TS "Properly"?

Depends on what you have. My PC isn't high end and I can play TS 1080p Ultra with no problems.

i5-7300hq (3,5Ghz Quad)
4GB RAM DDR4
GTX 1050 4GB GDDR5

The engine i believe is 2008 so depending on what pack you choose, the base game should run quite nicely.

^above poster is using a laptop and im not surprised hes happy with it, game is very compatible with older hardware

8GB RAM would help, so you can also run the TS2019 64 bits version. An SSD saves you load time for the game.

Ever seen specifications for contemporary gaming PC?
This is the answer you are looking for...
unless you provide us with your budget.

Well, I don't really know whats out there yet but preferably under $500. Based on what I've seen
a while ago, thats way to small of a price for a good PC but I couldn't necessarily say . . .

It runs on quad-core AMD laptop (dynamic lighting turned off though), but for better gaming performance I strongly advice to use at least quad-core i5 desktop computer with integrated graphics (the specs I have already tested on extreme are OK for me). If you would like also to buy TSW, you will need then to buy external graphics to get smooth gameplay on 1080p, the quality depends on that what will you expect from game. Hope this helps

The quality is still important, but I focus more on being able to run Dynamic Lighting as well as having a powerfull PC in general for when I'm in megatropolis's and there are 20+ trains around ;)

I checked the price of the system I suggested at the local reseller's site and figured out that you'll have to pay around 500$ for the PC with quad core i5 3,5 GHz, something less or equal 8 GB RAM. There are some extra hidden $ in the price, saying the box, electric supply and so on, so if you already have the base, you can literally buy something useful for these hidden $, for instance, secondary SSD drive, that is very helpful while loading the assets (10x faster). Thus, if it is not enough for your needs, whether, as I nothiced before, you would like to buy some memory and CPU consuming game, you'll definitely need an extra external video, let's say it's 1060 for extra 300$. Yeah, it's expensive, but it may help you.

If it is meant as a doorstop, it is OK.
This is borderline unuseable for office work these days, yet alone for gaming...

This will have a pretty hard time to run TS in legacy mode in low res, so no, this is not a good machine.

OK I suspected, that your budget is rather limited.

OK. Try to get a machine built around AMD Ryzen 3 2200G, it is a decent quad core CPU with fairly good graphics on die (so you will save some money here), get it on AMD B350 or B450 board with optimally 16 GB of DDR4 RAM (this RAM should be dual channel - two sticks - and as fast as affordable).
Rest is easy...

It will run TS201x in 720, in 1080 maybe, without AA ... and since the CPU is fairly strong here, it will be, well, playable.

I already checked it on cpubenchmark.net and it is very close to mine (+-5% bencmark score), and the cost is significantly less - it's two times cheaper! It's very good advice, BTW. It definetily can run the TS 2018 in full HD with full dynamic lighting enabled and even TSW on middle options with AA in at least 720p (if the integral video there is as good as in rival Intel processor).

That is the beauty of this baby...
and of course, if money allows it, one can opt for the beefier Ryzen 5 2400G (though its price/performace ratio is understandably slightly worse) and the best part is, that there is a very good chance, that B350/B450 AM4 mainboard can be upgraded in the future, if necessary, either by stronger APU, or by "clean" CPU (this would of course require dedicated GPU as well).

This is a win-win situation for anyone with a limited budget, if you ask me...

(of course, with budget unlimited, one really can't go wrong with Intel's i3, i5 or i7, but we have to operate within certain limits in order not to cross them -too much-, as these CPU simply require dedicated GPU in order to play TS201x - and given the prices of GPUs these days... same goes of course for "pure" Ryzen based CPUs from AMD).

I thought this may be the case but it was £30 & thought I would take the gamble, would I be able to "soup this up" buy getting a good graphics card etc? If so what would i need.
Thanks.

Thanks.

You really have to find the mainboard designation (socket type) and/or precise model of the CPU.
It is most likely AM2 based board (DDR2 compatible) and this means "end of line" pretty much, but there were other possibilities (going both directions).

Also, knowing the brand and rating of the PSU will not hurt (this is a question of opening the case and reading the label).
