Best european Dtg or 3rd party dlc?
Hi,

I have some money to spare (45 euros) and i want to buy a new route and a train. I own almost all dutch trains (3rd party) and i want some new routes and trains to enjoy. I have a big preference for german and surrounding areas, not that big on the uk. i like both stopping and intercity services, so a route where you can do both is great. Freight isn't really my thing.
I'll post a couple to get an idea

Any recommendations?

Without any doubt, the best german route is Konstanz-Villingen, so this is my biggest recommendation. Other than that, the virtual Railroads Expert Line locos are really great. You may find some of them here on steam, but most are sold on their own website.
Thanks for the recommendation! I'll have a closer look at the Konstanz-Villingen, Idk about the loco's because for 1 loco they're kinda expensive. If you had to choose one loco, which would you choose?
Mittenwaldbahn: Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Innsbruck Route Add-On
Berlin – Leipzig
Hamburg S1
Mosel Valley: Koblenz - Trier
DB BR 103 TEE
Three Country Corner

The reason the br 103 is in there, is because it's one of my favorite loco's ever
Hamburg S1: As much as I would like to, I really can not recommend this add on. It has too many faults, e.g. PZB isn't working correctly (Hamburg S Bahn uses it's own version of PZB in real life, which isn't included in TS and because signals are in really close proximity, it won't work correctly). The trains have some really questionable physics and are really resource heavy (especially if you want to use them as AI trains).

Three country corner: This is quite a nice but a bit dated route. It doesn't come with superelevated curves. Other than that, the scenery is pretty nice and it comes with some variety (a short part in Germany, another short part in Switzerland and the biggest part in Austria, which includes both mountainous and flat terrain).

Mittenwaldbahn: It's nice, but rather slow paced. Comes with both extremes: some ugly looking places and some very nice looking scenery in other parts. Has some minor PZB/signalling problems, but nothing major. Innsbruck station is quite laggy. This is part of the TS 2018 bundle, so maybe this would be a better deal.

I don't own Berlin-Leipzig and Mosel Valley yet, both look like great routes. Current sale prices are not really good, both routes were cheaper in other sales.

I also don't own the BR 103, but the steam version is a rather downgraded version of the original vR locomotive. It's up to you how many features you like to have in your locos. This is also true for the vR locomotives in general. They are not on the cheap side, but it's really a totally different feeling driving one of their locos compared to nearly all the DTG locomotives. I really like the BR 185.2, but as it is mainly a freight locomotive, I think you would rather like BR 101 or BR 146.

Hope this helps somehow... ;-)

I'm not that much of a fan of very new locomotives, like the earlier trains (80's and 90's) more. I don't mind paying this much for a loco (since you get coaches too), just want to make sure i'll be able to enjoy it with a nice route. Berlin-Leipzig seems good to me. It's kinda hard for me, cause i want to get the best i can for my money. Btw, is there any difference between the konstanz-villingen route on steam and on vr?

Something like these, Classic :)

i think i'm going to get the Leipzig-Berlin route, it has cities, good length and Berlin. I don't really mind the fact that it's kinda expensive still. Would you recommend the br 103 or a different loco from the same era?
Berlin-Leipzig seems to be a good choice.

I actually don't have any vR locomotives of this era, so I'm not a big help here. Funnily, despite being from Germany, I don't like the majority of those classic locos from around here (103 is the exception, but I still don't own it in TS). Maybe I have seen them too often around here. :D

I must say, It is very hard :(
The 103 is very interesting, but so is the br 156 (252) and the br 120. All of them are interesting :(

Too often? Weren't the 103's taken out in 2006?
Yes most of them were taken out in the mid 2000s, but I was born some time before 2006... :-p And I'm actually speaking more of the BR 111, BR 151 and some others. Both are still in operation and I can see examples of them nearly daily (also from time to time I spot a 103 still doing it's work). Plus all the railway enthusiasts are going crazy about this era, so you see pictures of these trains everywhere. I do like earlier eras and more modern trains, but 1960's, 1970's and 1980's trains are most of the time just an ugly sight for me (as mentioned above there are some exceptions like the 103, the 120 and the the ET 403).
i must say, i've always been amazed by how ugly they made the 403 :) anyway, I think i'll go get a loco from vr, probs the 103, 120 or 181.2 . Thank you all for your help up untill now!
If getting a Berlin route the BR 481 S Bahn is going for €3 euros in the shop but there is also a freeware version available from here: https://rail-sim.de/forum/wsif/index.php/Entry/1172-BR481-82-free-v-Version-1-1/
