The BR Class 460 'Juniper' EMU alert/beep sound. What does it mean?
Hi drivers,

A quick question about the 460 EMU loco. I've been learning how to operate this one and have been reading through the manual/watching YT videos to get a better idea. During a journey I've heard this faint deep sound that lasts no longer than a second. Anyone know what this means? Its not the normal alert sounds that happen. Its also not very loud. I've probably missed something in the manual about this.

Many thanks!

Axe, the class 460 comes in two variants, one fitted with the (newer) GSM-R radio and one fitted with the older Cab Secure Radio system(CSR). There are several different CSR areas set along the route. Everytime your train is near a border of one of those areas, it will change the CSR area in your radio set up to the upcoming area code. While this happens, you can hear a short beeping sound. Of course, this only works, if you set up your CSR radio before your journey and the route is fitted with the CSR equipment, which comes with this train or AP's class 205.

So far I've only heard it when I've been operating the train. I've not heard it in any videos yet. :steamfacepalm:

It might be the CSR area change sound. That would explain, why you didn't hear it in any videos yet. If they haven't set up the CSR or using the GSM-R trains, you don't hear this sound.

I have no idea what Mountainman has said whatsoever but I have just run for a good 20 mins and not heard a thing inside or outside the cab.
