Well that's my SOUND problem sorted......
Don't know if this will help anyone else. Hope so. Here's a brief overview of the problem :-

Almost total silence in the cab. Could hear some things like the clickety clack over rail joints and the AWS sound was (if I strained hard enough) just barely audible.

If I looked out of the window (so to speak - the left camera view) again almost silent, yet as I panned the camera towards the rear of the train, just as I passed 90 degrees, the normal sound would suddenly burst into life!

So did some investigation. Here was MY solution:-

Something(?) had changed my speaker configuration from stereo to 5.1. I only have basic stereo speakers. Corrected the fault and now my sound is all back to normal.

With any luck that MIGHT help out some others, as I have read a few posts about silent cabs!

I have just stereo speakers and my speaker configuration is set to Stereo and I still have low sound level in the cab.

Sorry to hear that. If I think of anything else to try I will let you know

Having the same issue here with my new computer. Just installed TS for the first time on it and the cabin sounds are very low compared to outside sounds. Confirmed that my stereo configuration is also set to 2 speaker stereo.

Same issue here. My speaker settings were already set to stereo, but just for the heck of it I set them to Quadraphonic to see what would happen. Same problem. Changed back to stereo. Same problem.

For me (I'm assuming it's the same for he rest of you) the engine sound specifically is muted when I'm facing ahead. All other sounds (wheels clicking, levers clicking when moved, horn) are normal. Engine sound normal when I'm facing back, but as soon as I face front it cuts out.

Update/Clarification. Did a quick test just now to see if the problem is specific to 32 or 64 bit. Both have the same problem.

I have heard it is Windows 10 specific although I am not in a position to prove that - are you chaps all on 10?. From what I heard an update is awaited from Microsoft.

Probably best to get this confirmed straight from the horse's mouth by contacting Dovetail support.

My Pc is a new build, barely 2 weeks old. Windows 10 latest version (Pro). Missing it at the mo cos laying in hospital bed with wires and tubes everywhere, so go to put up with my mobile phone for a while.

OK! Set virtual surround on your stereo speakers, it works!

I had quiet sound in the cab on the open road but the volume was much much higher when I went into a tunnel. It's a mystery!

This is happening with both my 2 desk speakers and my 7.1 headphones.

Thanks for this. Set my stereo speakers to "virtual surround" and now I have the Normal in cab sounds back again. I've tried diesel, electric and steam locos and the low in cab sound is now back to the normal volume like it was before.
