Is there a way to import trains from MSTS into Railworks/Train Simulator 2018?
I know it's been done before, because theres a model from MSTS thats for the Chicago North Shore and Milwaukee that was ported into TS18, and i'm trying to figure out if i can convert a Chicago South Shore and South Bend RR's cars into TS18. Any ideas?

Some ppl have done it but they are experts. Have you looked for them in RailworksAmerica, RWA?

It will be hard anyway, due to the increased modelling quality.

I meant that you might find the RR cars that you want at RWA.

You can open up the package manager and you will see an option to install Legacy Rail Simulator addon. This will install some old content. I believe it will create a folder labled MSTS. I did this once but the content was subpar.

Just tried it and I get a dialogue box to begin installation.

This is intended for the original Kuju Rail Simulator, which was at one point refenced as MSTS 2.

And regarding MSTS into RW/TS - no, it is not possible (this is what OpenRails engine is for).

Well, good luck with that... you are going to need it.

It requires complete overhaul of the model, basically, only 3D model and raw data can be used, which will spped up the creation process, not to mention, that MSTS textures are not exactly up to TS2018 standards.

Try Open Rails.

I understand and I sympathise.
However, as I said, there is no easy way... you have to transfer the model into RW/TS piece by piece.
Granted, it will be faster than building it from the scratch.
But there is no magic bullet which would transmogrify MSTS engines into TS2018.
