Possible to Combine Routes? If So, How?
I am working on a huge overhaul of the already amazing Adriana County workshop route. I had an idea to combine it with the Blackwood Creek workshop route. Is this possible to do without having to manually replicate it in the route edditor? If so, how would one do it? Thanks

They have to have the same map origin points. A user called Danny has merged a few routes before so it may be worth while contacting him/her.

Ooooooooh now that would be a neat trick. I'd love to do that myself. If anyone finds out please share the info here.

Or just make maps for the entire country instead of small segments, I love running 150 cars cargo trains.

The game couldn't handle the entire country (a UK one at least) - it struggles at loading many merged routes containing London :) - (one of my biggest merged routes is very unstable - I've practically had to give it up at this point )

Although if the country was Luxemburg it might cope :P :D

As for route merging it can only be merged properly if it has the same route point of origin in the case of the ones i've merged this is at Swanley (for the London UK Routes) . If it doesn't share this it is unlikely that it would be merged unfortunately.

Although technically it is possible to merge any route (that don't share the same point of origin) - but the amount of work to do it would be collosal mainly because every single item (track, road, loft, scenery etc) is linked to the tile its on in each file (think millions of file links). The amount of manual work would be a lot, it would be quicker to rebuild the route from scratch.

It would be possible to merge any route that doesn't have the same routes point of origin but the other route would also be upto 1km out (which isn't good for merging say ECML South to London to Bedford. I tried this with Stratford from GEML on to the Midland Main Line for the fun of it, and stratford was 600m out and was a complete pain to do.

The gods have spoken! May I ask what the combined route was? I am planning on extending a route from 45 miles to at least 100 miles (potentially 200 miles) of mostly single track rural with some stops in some small cities. You think that will be a bit too unstable?

You should be fine :) - the route in question has a lot of scenery around the london area which is the issue :) (many many lines in close proximity :) )

This one - http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=600012045

(If I added Chatham Main Line and Goblin into that mix I don't think it would run at all! )

Routes that have similar starting points can be combined?

Could this be done with the WLOS and Settle to Carlisle routes?

They both have Carlisle station as a terminus however WLOS station version being much more detailed. Combining these two routes would create nearly 200 miles of continuous track with over 40+ stations and numerous yards, sidings and industries.

Driving from Settle to Stranraer harbor would be great! What do you think?

Bit of a dead thread to drag back, no? In response to your question, it is techincally possible to merge routes with different starting points. I have no idea what the procedure is, but a community member on UKTrainSim I believe by the name of SpeedyPete has created a tool that allows one to merge routes together. You can see some of his work here - http://xcroute.com/ Currently, all he's released is the WCML from Preston to Glasgow plus the Edinbugh-Glasgow line, and an in-development full ECML from London to Edinburgh. Theoretically, it would be possibleto merge the two, but as Danny said, you would have to change every file adress or ask Pete about his process.

I suppose. But I seen the post and thought I'd ask.

Even with that program the two routes still need to have the same long / lat starting points for it to mesh, right?

To my best of my knowledge, the routes could have two completely different starting points. If I, say, wanted to merge New York - New Haven and London - Faversham High Speed, then I could. The separate origins would get crushed together, so if I merged NY-NH to L-F, then New York would appear around Swanley. If I wanted to move the two routes apart, then I would have to go and edit the locations of each scenery object, and Pete's tool is designed I believe to do that for you. Terrain textures act a bit weird around merge points from what I've heard, so you'd have to do some work. If you want to, I'm sure there's a guide on the internet about how to merge routes; if you want to, you can see what happens when routes with different origins are merged. I've not tried it, but it probably won't be pretty.

Yeah you're probably right. I can imagine not everything would work out perfectly.
darkage Nov 15, 2018 @ 1:14am
From what I know, only routes with the exact same point of origin can be combined. For example let's imagine you want to combine 2 routes that use St. Pancras International station, you can only combine those 2 routes, iirc, if in both routes, the same station has the EXACT SAME coordinates. If in one of the routes the station has different coordinates from the station in the other router, than it's no longer possible.

For example the german routes Cologne - Dusseldorf and Cologne - Koblenz, it's not possible to merge those 2 because cologne stations have different coordinates in the 2 different DLCs

I'm no good at route building and all i've ever hoped for is a route built by someone that covers sheffield via rotherham central - doncaster then onto leeds via wakefield westgate i found a doncaster to leeds but would cost £40 for the required routes/addons needed :( i was wandering maybe if it were possible to clone the york to peterborough route in routebuilder and build up to sheffield and leeds with that without using google overlay

Why did you reply to a thread from 2018? Could you have not posted this as a new thread?
