Flying Scotsman Route
I've just got the Flying Scotsman And since it comes with no routes have you got any ideas on what I should buy? I have South Wales Coastal, Chatham Main Line and Weardale & Teesdale.

Any main line route would be fine really, but it is more likely to be on the the ECML (north or south) routes. The WCML is electrified so may be slightly unrealistic, unless you run it as a heritage service.

Yes :) It is a modern route and quite laggy, so make sure you have sufficient specs to run it well.

I think the green version has a scenario for the GWML and the black version has a scenario or two for the London-Brighton route.

Another modern route, but with potential to get it up to speed, with some varied AI :)

She would be right at home on the Weardale and Teesdale. During engineering work on the main line services between Durham and Darlington would be diverted via Bishop Auckland as a matter of routine. In fact I was in Bishop the other day looking at old photo's of the station and there was Flying Scotsman on a northbound express. Nowadays I suppose you'd find yourself stuck on a 'bus- eugh.

As a barely relevant aside Flying Scotsman will be at Shildon next month for Locomotion's steam gala.

It may look pretty on the Settle-Carlisle route too ;)

Well, I only own the ECML north from years ago, which is still decent. GEML would be for me, but that's my preference based on what I want ;) Maybe look at reviews etc as well to see what may suit you best.

GWML because from just trains. You can get the western mainlines , Paddington to Exeter & Cardiff

ECML Echoes of Steam from the Workshop would be ideal but you'd need quite a few routes for it to work.

Fraid I don't have the money to buy all these but is ECML by itself good for steam trains?
Yes, ECML was it's natural habitat with long straight runs to stretch its legs between York and Newcastle. Although the route is set in the BR blue era you can use artistic licence. It might have been diverted onto the Weardale but would have to chug along at 45mph max. There's usually a sale on the bank holiday so you might get ECML very cheap.

The OP said that he has the W&T so I thought it worth mentioning but yes- that is a drawback. She'd look good crossing Durham viaduct though.

(If anyone's wondering the collection of photo's I mentioned is in the Four Clocks Centre which is a former church in Bishop Auckland- the one between the main road and the sidings in the W&T in fact. It's free to go in and worth your time if you happen to be in the area.)

You realize ECML Peterborough and ECML (North) are different DLC?

Oops- used the wrong log-in.

So is the York-Newcastle. The ECML South, Kings Cross- Peterborough is more up-to-date, with overhead wires. Another bonus with the ECML York-Newcastle is that you get the European Assets pack which contains the Class 55 Deltic.

ECML North and GWML are 70% off this weekend.

It comes with these two scenarios:

3.1 Free Roam: Scotsman at Paddington • Date June 2004 • Start Time 08:00 • Season Summer • Start Location Paddington
3.2 Scotsman in the Snow 4472 'Flying Scotsman' has just arrived at Didcot Parkway on a Plymouth to Paddington Railtour. You are to take the locomotive and its train from Didcot to Paddington. It is late evening, the sun is going down and there is snow on the ground. Let’s make this a trip to remember.
• Date January 2005 • Rating Medium • Duration 65 Minutes • Start Time 18:57 • Season Winter • Start Location Didcot Parkway

Which is the old, and rather good Great Western Mainline (Oxford-Paddington). That synergizes well with the old East Coast Mainline (Newcastle-York) which was just mentioned. Check out Green & Gold HST (First Great Western) if you get the GWLM-OP.
