Class 66 Loco Brakes
When a Class 66 loco goes into an emergency stop, I cannot figure out how to release the brakes so I can continue my run. I've tried everything I know or can think of (I even looked through the manual!) with no luck. I'm sure I'm overlooking something simple. If anyone can help, please respond and thanks in advance!

It takes a little time for the brakes to fully release from Emergency. Are you holding the brake controller in the release positon until the brakes are fully released?

On the 66 you hold the brakes in release and watch the gauge - when you release the brake key, the brakes will remain at whatever pressure they are at.

I've found on a couple of Diesel Loco's that you need to try apply the Brakes again slightly then press release then they do slowly release :)

Hello, as in real life, a number of traction after an emergency aws brake valve application, requires a full release before a full application of the train brake again, to allow the equalising valves to reset, before returning the train brake to the running position. You should be doing that with your 'engine only' brake fully on (if so fitted) to prevent unwanted movement of your train whilst resetting the brake.
Best.

Thank you, Sharpey, LeadCatcher, rwhdew and Chicken Balti for your replies and suggestions! I want to the think that I have tried holding the brake lever/key in the released position until the brakes released, but now I'm not so certain that I have. I will give this a try the next time I'm in trouble. And Chicken Balti, I usually do fully apply the loco (independent) brake while I'm waiting for the train (automatic) brakes to release. Thanks again to everyone for your help!
