I'm not sure to be honest. Maybe electricity or gas? I must look into that.

Would like to hear further as DTG does occasional produce through perhaps there 3rd party vendors the odd 'off the wall' content like the TS Marketplace: ÖBB 1189 ‘Krokodil’

http://store.steampowered.com/app/295196/

And the Torpedopfannenwagen Pack

http://store.steampowered.com/app/295193/

I could easily see your loco in the same light. Lets see :-)

Would need pushing in front of DTG faces though, but that isnt impossible ;-)

I'd happily pay the standard price for it.

Its so quirky I suspect many who like this less-than-regular content would too. Like myself I should say too.

Im gong to get the ÖBB 1189 ‘Krokodil’ when I comes up in my purchase list order :-)

Industrial (i.e. non-B.R.) fireless locomotives were not unknown in Britain in the days of steam. They were used for shunting at locations where flammable goods were handled/manufactured.

Steam was pumped into the 'boiler' - actually a lagged steam chamber - under very high pressure. This would be sufficient to allow the loco to operate for several hours before needing a refill.

Bowater's paper manufactory in Kent used fireless locos.

Thats great info. Would you yourself like to see this built and enabled for TS?

I'm not sure, Terry. It would be interesting but would have limited scope for operation within TS.

In the US, "Tank" engines were common in industrial plants such as steam electricity generation stations. The tank was filled with steam to allow it to shunt coal cars etc.

A fireless loco' is preserved and on display at Locomotion (the NRM annex in Shildon) and Darlington Railway Preservation Society (just round the corner from DRCM) has another awaiting attention. Note that the cylinders are under the cab which makes the steam pipes shorter and she has a bell instead of a whistle to save steam.

We had a talk about Lambton Locomotive Works (the centre of an extensive colliery railway system) at the Friends a few years ago which mentioned these in passing. Apparently they had thirty or so for use underground though possibly a smaller type operated by someone walking alongside.

I'm going to get in touch with the chap who gave the talk and steer him towards this- I'm sure he'll find it interesting. Thanks for mentioning it.

There were some fireless steam engines in the US too. They just had steam pupmed in and the steam was stored on board the engine.
