Best DLC/routes to just relax?
What are the best routes if you just want to admire the scenery while driving a nice train, not having to look for signals (except speed limits on the HUD) and memorize speed limit systems all the time?
EDIT: To clarify, the scenery isn't that important, I meant unlike the German routes where you have to know every signal or else you'll get hit with a "random" 60 speed limit while you're doing 160 without it showing up in the HUD.

The Isle of Wight line is relaxing as is the Settle-Carlisle. For mountain scenery the Three Counrty Corner route.

If you like really slow then most US routes fit the bill. :steambored:

Just trains Kyle Line. DTG West Highland Line South and the WHL Extension, WLOS, to name a few.

You will get really relaxed, take a US freight route. Donner Pass, Feather River Canyon, Soldier Summit or Marias Pass (if you live in the USA). I particularly like Sherman Hill. Its a very basic landscape, making eaht tree, rock or hill a landmark. It may take some time to appreciate thta, but it's a reallly beautiful route. In Europe it is more difficult. I think the Albula line (freeware of payware) are great for some relaxed driving.

I hate to be 'that one' but it depends on what you like to relax to. Yeah yawn right? :steamhappy:

For me industrial North is where I feel at home and to see the dark landscapes of the regions. This would include the West Highland Line South and Settle to Carlisle each with beautiful countryside.

Moving south.

The North Somerset Railway Route is so classically lovely and is there for me to just play when I want to chug along with a Class 117 and forget the world and China Clay for Export just makes me smile when the Class 37 is allowed its head and it roars like Mictlantecuhtli from the depths of Aztec Mictlan hell through the shallow green and gold valley next to the waterside. The Paradox makes me tingle with excitement.

Very serene and beautiful really all while the 37 purposely thunders along :)

Some of the longer legs on the Weardale-Teesdale network are very nice, few speed limit changes and easy to remember where they are, mostly 45mph cruising through the countryside!

Mittenwaldbahn Garmisch-Partenkirchen-Innsbruck, your driving slowly and dont must do so much, and the speed limit Changes rarely

I would also recommend Portsmouth Direct Line route. I found that one to be a nice environment to drive in.

Good suggestions above - I personally like Settle - Carlisle, Just Train's Western Mainlines and Edinburgh Glasgow.

Good suggestions above and I would include Semmeringbahn also. Beautiful mountainous scenery with cute villages and pretty easy driving!

Seconded. I live in the area and the scenery has a simple beauty that I think the DLC captures rather well. I showed some screen grabs to another rail enthusiast who had no trouble recognizing locations.

You can't switch off entirely or the gradients will catch you out- over Cockfield Fell for instance you have to watch either the brakes or throttle but then you get to cross Lands Viaduct which demands admiration.

I guess yes, most of these are on my wishlist and March Madness is coming up. I did what I could to limit myself and had to exclude West Highland South and Mittenwaldbahn, but still.
Because this thread became popular, I hope it was of use to other people too, I kind of want to make threads like these weekly, just not for me anymore, but the community.

When is March Madness coming? Is that usually a big sale?

Don't know the exact date, but as the name suggests it's this month, and yes it's the biggest TS sale aside from the Steam Summer and Christmas sales.
