If you like really slow then most US routes fit the bill.
I hate to be 'that one' but it depends on what you like to relax to. Yeah yawn right?
For me industrial North is where I feel at home and to see the dark landscapes of the regions. This would include the West Highland Line South and Settle to Carlisle each with beautiful countryside.
Moving south.
The North Somerset Railway Route is so classically lovely and is there for me to just play when I want to chug along with a Class 117 and forget the world and China Clay for Export just makes me smile when the Class 37 is allowed its head and it roars like Mictlantecuhtli from the depths of Aztec Mictlan hell through the shallow green and gold valley next to the waterside. The Paradox makes me tingle with excitement.
Very serene and beautiful really all while the 37 purposely thunders along :)
Seconded. I live in the area and the scenery has a simple beauty that I think the DLC captures rather well. I showed some screen grabs to another rail enthusiast who had no trouble recognizing locations.
You can't switch off entirely or the gradients will catch you out- over Cockfield Fell for instance you have to watch either the brakes or throttle but then you get to cross Lands Viaduct which demands admiration.
Because this thread became popular, I hope it was of use to other people too, I kind of want to make threads like these weekly, just not for me anymore, but the community.
