Antivirus software declared game launcher malware
just had a wierd thing happen to my train simulator. AVG suddenly declared it malware and removed the launcher. I went to restore it and it deleted it instead. this hasn't happened since I bought the game 4 years ago. and the game was working fine for the last 4 hours. what to do?

Exempt Railworks in AVG.

You know... AVG always maintained policy, that each scan has to find something to be declared virus/malware/whatever no matter what, otherwise customer will be unsatisfied. :steamfacepalm:

Trust me, I know what I am talking, as this piece of s...oftware is from my country - and I would not touch it with a stick. Btw. I am dealing with this for last 20+ years.

Same goes for Devast, oh, sorry Avast. :steamsad:
I actually maintained a policy that customer reporting hardware issue should remove Avast from his/her computer first and only after that we can discuss the nature of its potential hardware problem...:steamsalty:

These days and especially on Windows 10 with its Windows Defender, there is no really good reason to use stand alone AV solution, apart from the need to slow down one's computer.

OP. You may have seen many have had this issue lately and whilst Calingard has the simple solution I for one have dumped Avast and Comodo firewall and am now trialling Avira antivirus and Windows 10 firewall.

This firewall is not only for Windows 10 though and goes right back to win 7.

Just an edit for those who may find this in a search.

This Windows 10 firewall software is nothing to do with MS as far as I can tell (?) and is also unfortunately named to perhaps appear so. Its a seperate install and 3rd party software. I myself at the time of this post and edit is using Windows 7'

Had the same problem with Avast, and solved it the same way as above, but in the process I found that a recent Win 10 update had turned on Windows Defender, which was also causing problems. The Railworke.exe program was being removed. Just be sure to check them both. Personally, I've had nothing but grief from Windows Defendfer, and while I'm not suggesting you turn it off...

If it works for you - well, everything is OK. Be happy with your choice. And I meant it.

But my back is still full of knives (figuratively speaking, of course :steamhappy:) those crooks stabbed into them over last 20 years.

Also, you have not been using it long enough. Trust me.

I remember Avast before it entered the world mass market, when it was selling locally only and when it was recommended AV solution for czech state institutions.
And these memories are not nice.
Not to mention, that they did several unethical moves in the past even after they entered the world mass market.

Bring back F-Stop.

I like Avira for the PC. It gets rather invasive and annoying if you link it with your mobile phone account, but otherwise no problems <knock wood>
well I, for one, have been using AVG since Windows XP SP1 when my father, a former ICBM guidance programmer and all around computer tech for the Air Force and even after retirement (who owns his own computer build and repair shop in CA) told me to use the free version. I have neverr had a problem with it until now. and this is the paid ultimate edition. I've used worse. Mcafee and Norton to name a couple.

it may be the recent upgrades to their programs and I think I am going to have a talk with them.

The same applies to Avast. Its become like the horrible Norton bloatware. Once they start with this 'suite' nonsense they lose those customers who are knowlegeable and pander to the naive users who sadly know no different.

The rest of us are left trying to find solutions which actually dont want some company to be our guiding hand or should I say our mothers or nannies taking more of our PC resources manipulating our choices rather than enabling them.

Am I supposed to feel good about someone like Norton? Its like washing powder to me. Clean my clothes properly and dont expect me to care less your name and who you think you are.

I have been using Webroot for 2 years without any issues. Lightweight, fast and not a resource hog.

If you have Windows 10 all you need is the inbuilt Windows Defender and the free version of Malwarebytes Antimalware. Using those two together I've never had a virus or any malware problems.
ok so I fixed the problem bad news is I had to uninstall it and then go into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps and delete the whole Railworks folder and then reinstall the program to get it working again which sucked but since no one here wanted to suggest me a different way to resolve the issue besides deleting my antivirus its what I had to resort to.
