BNSF Licensing
Hi all,

Recent developments regarding DLC only available to U.S. players have arisen. According to commenters in this discussion https://steamcommunity.com/app/24010/discussions/3/2741975115075172403/, steam has finally caught up and stopped the DLC trading (of BNSF content) from one country (U.S.) to another (U.K., Canada, etc...).

Because of this, I was wonder what your thoughts and/or possible solutions (so that this DLC could be sold outside of the U.S.) are to this dilemma after this recent news.

Other than that, keep on 'simming' everyone! :train1:

The title of the post is 'US collection - need a bit of help (confirmation)'.

My question is why is DTG being affected but not TrainZ?
OldAlaskaGuy May 17, 2017 @ 7:37am
Not to open this can of worms one more time as it has been discussed to ad-nauseaum in the past. The most likely reason is the licensing agreement DTG has with BNSF. Other agreements with other entities are a separate issue and have no standing in this issue. There used to be a way by gifting to get BNSF content, however several people have reported that this does not work anymore. As per Tranz you would need to contact them directly but you most likely not receive an answer to this question.

You can indeed buy outside of the US DLC from TANE with BNSF content (own that game too).

Reasons could just be laziness from Dovetail's side or just TANE ignoring it. But from what I know, moost of TANE's routes are made by its users, so it wouldn't surprise me if it's a player who works/knows somebody at BNSF (or even just contacted them) who got the license. In this case, as you can see, it would be different: Dovetail is a compamy, BNSF's content in TANE is probably made by a user.

(I'll check a bit later)

Or only because DTG license has been renewed recently compared to trainz licences?

So yeah, basically BNSF impose a US-only restriction on all of their licensed products and have therefore asked us not to distribute BNSF branded content outside of this territory. Whilst we full understand how disappointing this is to fans of BNSF outside of the United States, we enjoy a good working relationship with the company, and are fully committed to respecting their policy.

Don't quote me as I can't speak on TANE's behalf, but it's more than likely that the restriction applies to any other digital products featuring their branding too(?) so who knows what's going on there...

Lets hope CSX dosen't pull this stunt too as this would badly affect TWS I'd imagine.

It's a pity that some sort of one off or final sale couldn't be organised to let people scoop up what their missing.

Has their been any thoughts or plans on de-branding current content or making new unbranded content like the Aurora-Chicago route?

I would be down for that.

Would be great if you guys could confirm if there's another way of getting that specific content in Europe or not at all. That way the guessing game for us would finish and we would just...stop wanting those BNSF-branded content and move on to other stuff? Even if disappointed?

The only way at this time would be purchaseing 3rd party content and adding this to your assets or re-skinning. You can join Railworks America and download this content. Travel by Train is another as well as Digital Train Models for a few. You will need to add this content using the utilities program included in Railworks or manually installing. Some content is free others for a donation and others must be purchased. If you have not done this before this will add another dimention to the game. Caution, before you can download you must join the forum and make 2 postings. The RWA forum will NOT tolerate any abouse whatsoever. These guys are professional, semi-professional or novice modelers and content creators that I have the higest respect for and have learned much from since I started playing this game.

I'm not a fan of USA stuff to the point of downloading third party stuff :/ more like a completionist on Steam I guess?

It is all there, US, European. Take a look and see.

I really cannot understand how it might harm BNFS to change this policy. It is annoying we cannot buy BNSF related DLC anymoree and I believe it harms the reputation of BNSF becuase of this attitude to their fans.
