Must have armstrong powerhouse packs?
I'm considering buying stuff from the AP website but I'm not sure what to buy since I see many scenarios need other packs to be purchased as well. So what are the must have add-on packs and what are the best?

I'd say their soundpacks/enhancement packs are top notch, as is their rolling stock. Cannot comment on their scenarios as I create my own. Ap might have a mid summer sale soon.

I love the Class 101 sound pack, Class 205, Wherry Lines and Class 43 Valenta Enhancement Pack. The lighting enhancement pack is also recommended, it makes signals easier to see on many DTG routes.

I've never bothered with their scenarios, can't say anything about that. They require a lot of payware that I don't have.

Most things on AP's website have videos showing you exactly what you're getting. You can also download the manuals to read everything there is to know.

If you're getting rolling stock or a sound mod, you'll see that there's a long list of requirements you can ignore if you're not interested in the free scenarios included with the rolling stock.

Honestly, I’m really struggling not to buy everything in their library at the minute! Their products have transformed Train Simulator for me, although the downside is that they are undeniably expensive. So far I’ve got all 3 general enhancement packs, almost all the rolling stock enhancement packs, 2 or 3 standalone locos, a couple of sound packs & one scenario pack.

My advice would be look at your favourite route(s) and go for one or two things that will enhance those. I would definitely recommend the Lighting Effects pack either way. If you play the nighttime scenarios on Edinburgh- Glasgow for example, the difference is huge.

You get scenarios bundled in with each enhancement or loco you buy, so if you’re remotely clued up with RW Tools you can swop out stuff you don’t have for stuff you do. It’s a bit time consuming but YouTube is littered with tutorials on how to do that.

My only gripe (and this is not with AP at all) is that we, the consumer, are having to effectively pay twice to get a properly simulated train. I find that annoying, but then that is on DTG for not getting this stuff right in the first place.

ps If you haven’t got it, get Wherry Lines. It’s definitely one of the best routes out there. I went to University in Norwich & it does a cracking job of recreating the look and feel of the whole area. If you’re concerned about the payware requirements required by the AP version from their website, they made it available on Steam as an all in one purchase.

Depends on your preference, If you want DOO doors then go for their (not sound) packs, like the class 456 which btw doesnt require the DTG 456 (made that mistake, wasted 20 quid). If you want upgrades to trains you have on Train Simulator then go for their enhancement/sound packs. Their lighting packs help in night environments too.
