Please consider the HD Texture pack for Infinity as well.
I usually run the XBLA texture mod for Infinity and I would love to have the convenience of having the texture mod integrated into steam as a DLC like it is for Durandal.

Thanks for bringing these games to steam! Marathon Infinity is one my favorite games of all time.

What is "the XBLA texture mod for Infinity", exactly? Only Marathon 2 was ported to console, and while there are several fan-made texture packs, that makes it hard to pick out one as the high-res DLC of choice.

The iphone version of Infinity has the same HD textures as the xbox version of 2.

Same here. I first saw the OG monster & weapon sprites for M2 via my legacy Aleph One Infinity from 2012 and they suck.

EDIT: Joke is on the spastic who gave me a jester award: not only am I correct but all you did was give me steam points. You scored an own goal.

CFP Plugin (The one used by the iOS version) has just been added to the Classic Marathon Infinity steam workshop. It is a complete set and no other texture downloads are necessary.

Those look good, but 5 gigs is far more than I am willing to devote for that. I just installed my copy of the freeverse texture mods (labeled CFP) I got from simplici7y ages ago (which uncompressed is like 400mb). I don't suppose a "potato" release would be forthcoming :)?

Sure, in a little bit. Compressing everything and putting in DDS artifacts seemed antithetical to everything I was working toward. But if that's what people want. The iOS version, compression is a necessity.
Terin Aug 23, 2024 @ 7:30pm
Would the pre-AI upscaled ones just be that 400MB version? Do you have to re-compress them when an older version is available?
CzarStoat Aug 23, 2024 @ 7:51pm
No, the old version was based off of the textures directly from the XBLA export as that was what was available at the time. These are from original HD sprites provided to us by Hippieman who was a lead dev at Freeverse. Sure you could quarter the size of everything and crush it with the worst jpeg compression and you could get something comparable....

What I mean is I can apply a dds compression to the new HD ones and get something quite a bit smaller in terms of size. But it wont be as small as the XBLA rips, nor would you want that. For one thing, a lot of the sprites I created from that first attempt, 10 years ago, like the additional color tables and glow maps, were not all that good as I had a very rudimentary understanding of gimp's advanced tools.

Also do note, this Workshop version also includes Goron's Wall textures and landscapes built in, for ease of installation for steam users. That is a little extra space too.

TheDoc45 beat me to a low end pc friendly version! Only 650mb

Just plop it in your Plugin folder for Marathon Infinity folder within steamapps

Fantastic plugin, just what I needed BUT it's spliced together, there is no option to play with HD monsters pack only and original textures like it's done for XBLA DLC for Classic Marathon 2.

I would love to completely remove all the HD textures, there are folders and image files, however I'm not sure it will work fine.

Simply take the ones you don't need out. His version uses PNG which is easily sorted
