It's literally impossible to make those times without cheating (the hell ones anyway).

It would be cool if the daily challenge runs would get recorded (like you can save a replay of your run in 'Super Meat Boy') and the records of the fastest 10 runs every day get uploaded on Steam so everyone (after he/she had tried the challenge of the day himself, so the levels don't get spoilt to them) can see how the best runners did it and check if they did it in a legit way.

How is it possible to cheat that?
I'm not defending it, I just mean how do you cheat to get that time? Compass, unlimited bombs and invincibility, then just run and bomb through the whole level as fast as poss?

Using cheat engine to edit the time values (yes it is possible)

If only Spelunky had a Dark Souls esque mechanic where you could screw over other peoples games.... That would be fun!

I support this idea 100%! I would really want to see the best spelunky players in action when they reach the top score. Someone, quickly notify the devs of this idea!

I can already imagine all the possibilities...

Spelunky's programmer, Andy Hull, will be removing the hacked times from the leaderboard later today. Source

Still no word yet on if they plan to implement anything, like VAC or some other type of anti-cheat, to prevent those scores from being posted in the first place, though.

VAC is for multiplayer games.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if VAC's functionality could extend to leaderboard games or not. I suppose it can't.

I'd still love to see some sort of cheat detection, though. All it would need to do is prevent a score or time from being posted on the leaderboards if it detected cheating.

(P.S., HI, Fhqwhgod, I'm Syd from the DF forum. :D)

Splendid tidings.

They should put in a code that if someone uses a cheat or hack it will permanently alter their game causing the ghost to always appear in every level. The only way to get the ghost to leave is to reset all your progress

They'd just hack the ghost out of the game again.:beatmeat:

Problem is the client side can easily be hacked. Time should be recorded server side so it can't be affected by the client. If hacker can't alter time client side, then they could still use teleportation hacks to move from point A to B fast. So basically a lot of the game should be running server side so positioning can't be altered. The more is controlled server side, the more powerful the server needs to be, server needs to be maintained and would use a lot of bandwidth ect. Which is expensive and can give other problems such as lag.
