Thief
I can't run and jump with mouse and keyboard
I always fall down when trying to run and jump with mouse and keyboard. I believe the rebinded keys are bugging the game (I'm lefty and cannot use WASD confortably). It works fine with the x360 pad though, but I want to play the new Thief with the same controls as the classics.

Not having issues doing that with my trackball/keyboard. There is a timing to it (if you hit space too early, nothing happens... too late and you usually run off the edge). There are a few glitchy places (trying the high road out of Chapter 2 there's one jump that was a PITA because you had to aim just right or drop down right beside a dog cage).

Health & Safety requires you to leave your mouse and keyboard at home when running and jumping, you may get injured.

You should be able to rebind the controls to something more comfortable.

I don't use WASD, so have rebound everything around RDFG, and so far not hit any issues. Even contextual controls have correctly worked out I have rebound controls and mapped them to the appropriate key.

Then it comes down to timing, and that will take practice.

The problem is that if you rebind the jump key (space) to something more natural for a lefty (Num 0) the the jump mechanic doesn't work. Swoops and mantling do though.

I have mapping a number of keys and none will allow you to jump gaps...except the Spacebar.

Odd. I'm a lefty and I've bound the jump/swoop key to NUM 0 and it works fine. Rebound run to ENTER and movement to the cursor keys.

The problem is probably that Garret "Can't" jump in this game, so that might be why you fall down. In this game however you can only activate a pre-made jumping animation between two points on the map. to do this you must time a very small invisible hitbox pre-placed and certain positions by moving forward and pressing the jump key. If your timing is wrong Garret will plumet down like a sack of ♥♥♥♥, or just look down at his toes.

Yep. If I set jump/swoop/maltle to the space bar it works perfectly. I can swoop and climb with the Num0 key, but not jump. Even mantling is a little off without the space bar (I can do it, but not in a free-run way).

Make sure you don't accidently have another action using the same key. It doesn't warn you if you do. I bound both the 'move forward' action with 'run' on the same key so I don't have to hit 3 keys at one time. I know my keyboard/mouse will not always recognize 3 keys at once which is odd.

When running around I find that if I don't get a "Climb (using space key)" alert appearing - or something similar to that I can't climb. Jumping up on things in this game is highly regulated and running and jumping does not work like usual. When I approach a box that can be climbed on to or "manteled" I move up to it and just press the space key. More times then not if I am up on one of those high board walks and have to jump from one to another I walk up to the edge and press the space key. The program does the rest. In otherwords I may have the game set up to show the climb alert at the proper time I need to climb something. I would have to go back and check. At first I tried using the forward key then the space key, but now pretty much just use only the space key when trying to climb something (or jumping from one platform to another ) (that IS allowed to be climbed on according to the game program).

You can run around with the space key permanently held down and Garrett will climb when you are at a climb point or jump when you are at a jump point. It doesn't require exact timing and pressing of the button; however, this will prevent use of the swoop (which can only be performed by a quick tap and release of the spacebar while moving).

The biggest issue most people have with jumps is the contextual nature of the space key. A quick tap results in swoop, in order to climb/jump you need to keep it held until the action initiates - usually less than a second but still longer than a tap - but a quick tap and release will result in a swoop attempt over the other context uses.

With me it was the "My keyboard can't handle 3 keys simultaneously" issue as well. So the trick was a combinations of postings above: Mapping walk/run to the same key, hold Space and run to the jump-point. You may remap to walk+shift anytime afterwards.

Thanks folks, you saved my poor little monitor from being yelled at a lot. :)
