Can you kill people/guards in this game?
Like stealth kills and such? I see he has access to weapons like bows and stuff, heard from word of mouth that the blackjack was the main weapon but only for stunning and knocking people out.

You may be able to, but why would you want to? You're a thief, not an assassin.

I just wanna make sure I have different options of doing some missions, a little variety.

Well the idea in all previous thief games that regardless of your morale stance, killing is just unprofessional. If you used dagger or arrow, then theres blood, which then costs you a water arrow to clean up. Chances of guard making a noise upon death could happen, which then alerts more guards, and before you know it you have to burn a flash bomb try to hide, bump into another guard while runing away, have to use more supplies. In the long run your left with no health potions left, low supplies, and alert guards, all because of 1 kill, which in hindsight would have been better to KO'd.

Oh ok thanks for telling me more about that, I didn't know the game mechanics was that deep.

Yeah, killing is not your hallmark tactic.
Knocking out people though on the otherhand is generally acceptable. You have a hand-club (Blackjack) and chokeholds for that.

This raises the question , does this game work similar to dishonored , where killing gives you some kind of "bad" repercussion , or you can kill or not based nothing but preference?

im just gonna assume that everything has consequences in this game. Like they said, you can choose which approach you want but think carefully before you do it.

Well like Darth listed , those were bad things that can happen , BUT these are not story related.

Im wondering if doing this will affect the game outcome is some way.

Well I'm guessing the most likely thing would be more guards and enemies around in the Hub areas. But yeah in general killing in thief titles is less about story consequence and more about gameplay conquences as result of the decision to kill vs nonlethal. I hope they push things farther. For example, remeber how the 1st time you got caught by guards in Deadly Shadows, there was a chance they'd throw you in prison, and then you had to escape. What if the chances of guards killing you or throwing in prison was based on how much you killed?

Basically as stated its not the moral issue, its the tactical/professionalism issue. Garrett has a reputation to uphold.

Basicly either one works but no kills is best (or low chaos for dishonerd fans)

Pity!

Depending on difficulty setting, you can kill whoever you like. Guards, citizens, animals, beggers, hookers...whoever. You use your bow to do this mainly, but you can get creative and make kills using other tools or the environment.

At high difficulty settings you can only knock out guards. The Master difficulty forces a rule where any civilians killed or knocked out will end the mission.

It is generally even harder, and more "professional" to complete the game or a mission with no kills or knockouts, and even not to be seen at all or even alert any guards. It is much harder to do and presents a greater challenge. This is called "Ghosting". You can customise the Master difficulty even further to allow no kills or knockouts AT ALL or the mission ends.

If your on "normal" difficulty (named Thief) you can kill whoever you want, but you can also customise this difficulty setting as well. Whether or not killing brings you more trouble than it is worth is for you to decide.

There are no repurcussions to doing so, such as more guards spawning, or loot penalties etc

In fact some Steam achievements and in game goals reward you for doing so. This encourages you to replay missions using different play styles at different difficulties to get these rewards.

Pretty sure if you shoot a Broadhead arrow at someone who's unaware (and you've aimed properly) you will shoot them in the throat. No sound but gurgling. Still. You have to clean up if you don't want another person to wander by and raise an alarm.
Draig Mar 6, 2014 @ 10:31am
If you want to go around killing your likely to need the quiver upgrade that allows you to kill silently with arrows, due to the moss coating in it.

On higher difficulty settings you will fail a mission for killing a person. Non-human monsters, such as the zombies from the first game or the puppets from deadly shadows, have been acceptable to kill. Generally the game and a large part of the Thief fanbase frowns on killing in the game.
