That's great. Having spent 80+ hours on it so far, I'll definitely recommend it. Actually, if you look past its issues there's a very good stealth experience in there, true to the earlier games. But that requires an open mind, and most people seem to lack that.
Not that I actually think it deserves nearly 9/10, that seems skewed, but at least 8/10!
Also hoping this could make the chance of a sequel bigger!
And yeah, it is totally underrated.
I don't understand what (sane) people think is so wrong with the game. This is released 16 years after the first game, so one should expect some differences.
That said, this is definitely a hard core stealth game. And I think people don't have what it takes to play it the right way and that's why they compare it to other games and/or think it sucks.
So yeah, either the haters lack an open mind or they are just trolling, like one person in this thread, who thinks he found his home here.
I think it's time to show them the door. Ratings speak for themselves though.
The haters are, sort of, talking to a wall. At least they found an equal regarding intelligence then.
So here's a FACT: Most people really like Thief! A vast majority.
What's odd to me though is that everyone on Twitch streaming bought it on their PS4.
I kind of wish people would get a good PC to play Thief on. It's not as great on console.
Maybe that's why the game got bad ratings too, because it doesn't play as well on console?
There's just no way to play Thief on console as well as on PC - you're not quick and agile enough. If you want to play Thief in an "advanced" way, you must play it on PC. That's what I think anyway, and based on my experience. The best players play it on PC. The others play it more casually (which isn't really fun to watch either, because it then becomes less about stealth, typically).
Let it go. The game was trashed at launch. I wouldn't be surprised if this killed the brand. As I said in another topic, Dishonored is the new king of the hill, and I don't even have to play it to know that.
The problem is that it actually plays much like Thief 2/3, and goes backwards in many ways. It's a title that had AAA-level senisiblities bolted onto the skeleton of an older game.
The enemy AI in particular is shockingly bad. Honest to God, it was like I'd flashed back to "Breaking and Entering" from the second game. Enemies just run up and wail on you all at once. It's worse than T1/T2 in many degrees.
.
No it isn't. There's no incentive to actually play or encourage hardcore stealth (and believe me, I can drop 50-60 hours into a hardcore title without a problem). It's not even easy to understand what the playstyles are, and how you're being graded.
Right, because everyone else is wrong and you're right.
Get off your high horse. All you do is make hit-and-run posts, and you willfully deny the reality of the situation.
Yeah, critically maligned, mediocre reviews (sorry, 70% is nothing to crow about) and near-widespread condemnation on the forums. It does indeed speak for itself.
You're confusing fact with fantasy there, chief.
Do you not read? One of the main problems with the game is that was designed for consoles first and foremost, which led to a lot of the problems spoken about in other topics (piddling maps, hidden loading screens, bizarre architecture).
What if I told you not to EVER write to me or about me again?
I do NOT write "hit-and-run" comments. Man, you make me so angry.
You have to distinguish between OPINIONS and BEHAVIOR.
Anyway, continue harrassing me and I will report you. Writing about me behind my back is included, of course.
Who are these insane people who bully others based on what we like?
What's wrong with liking a tiny little game? In the whole scope of things. They ruin so much joy, but worst of all, they hurt people.
I wish I cared less, but I know what bullying can do to people. That's why I react so strongly.
It's not all about a game, in this sense.
But objectively, Thief is definitely underrated. To deny statistics is pretty daft and ignorant.
Numbers show: 70 per cent of the masses think Thief is a good (or good enough) game. haters say "yeah, but who are those 70 per cent of the masses?". So they are calling 70 % of the population dumb. Troll logic. Or IDK...
Uh, yeah. You do. You ran into a topic and started an argument by trying to lump an entire set of people together. You clearly weren't expecting that I was going to call you out on it.
Selective memory is a wonderful thing. I'll have to try that sometime.
Again with that selective narrative. Lumping someone else into this won't help you. If I absolutely hated the game, I wouldn't have put 22 hours into it. Nor would I have taken the time to write a very thorough review on it.
Honestly, chief, if the mere thought of a "large group of people" not liking something is enough to hurt you, you need to get off the internet for a while.
Okay, while we're quoting statistics. Of the 5,672 reviews that are in the English language, the average review score is worse. Only 62% of the reviews are positive.
I wouldn't be sitting here crowing about a 70% reception. That's practically a fail according to most review publications.
At best, it can still only be characterized as "mixed" with that number. It's not some kind of misunderstood classic with those numbers. Most of the outrage comes from people who remember how the older games were, and how this does nothing to improve upon it. In many ways, it's seen as a step backwards.
Again, cut the narrative. You seem to think this is some kind of injustice. It's a game. I'm here presenting points. You're just rambling at no one in particular.
Someone's clearly never used the Steam forums before. Making false claims against people that argue with you is pretty funny, though.
So I'm glad that you think that my reactions upon your harrassment is funny and that should tell the whole story for everyone reading this.
I have never acted like a fanboy or even disillusioned about Thief.
But you're putting all the words in my mouth.
And, you're only after me, it seems. Bullies act like that: find a victim that responds in the right way.
You have had other "targets" in this topic but you leave them alone.
Anyway, I will not rest until you have been corrected.
A discussion is one thing, but you don't understand or care about your behavior against me, which is so much more personal and intimate other than a discussion about a game.
I'm not the passive aggressive type, BTW. I'm quite active and direct. That's the only way you can deal with bad people, I have learned.
If I have to release hell on you, I will.
Equating an entire section of people to people who were systematically killed by the most reprehensible political party in history never has been, and never will be, funny.
I'm here responding to your points in a structured way. You're ranting about how much everyone hates you.
Again, you started this. Had you come in and said "I don't agree with that position, and here's why", giving examples, I would have respected your tone. Instead, you started with insults, ladled on more insults, and are now in the process of melting down.
Yeah, I think you need to have your internet privileges removed for a while. In the meantime, this discussion is more entertaining than Thief (2014).
