Excessive Virals?
This is my first time playing this game a friend recomended it to me and ever since I got to old town I noticed that there are those running Virals zombies every minute. They spawn in waves of anywhere from 2 to upwards of like 7 or 8 sometimes and it is really annoying. I am loving almost everything else about this game bit these virals are honestly kind of ruining combat for me as I usually just switch to guns or arrows now all the time. It diesnt help that they always magically know exactly where you are and have those annoying shrieks that make me have to turn down the volume constantly.

Is there any point in the main story where they die down and dont spawn so much so I can quickly get there and be able to do side missions without having to kill 20 virals just going to the mission.

Virals are attracted to sound. If you don't want to fight them, don't shoot guns or blow things up so often

My man, virals are gonna keep spawning every time that you make noise (Shooting, Blowing stuff, Activating Traps, Landing on a wooden roof), all of these ones are gonna trigger the script that spawns the virals. If you don’t want to fight them too often, just use melee weapons or use a silenced pistol, that you can craft with Requisition Packs

Also do not use fire modded weapons outside. Some of the zombies can be toxic and have a little gas cloud around them. If you catch them on fire it can ignite the gas cloud and that will be loud enough to spawn virals.

Even when I'm not making noise they still spawn like crazy. I'll be running on rooftops and they'll break down a door or jump up out of the sewers from the ground and magically know I'm on the rooftops.

Hell I was camouflaged breaking zombies necks and the virals stand right next to me and follow me. I went up to a rooftop and they STILL followed me and were right on me the second my camouflage wore off.

Yeah, something like that is happening to me, I have made no sounds just casually running on the streets and they always know where I am, and this is not a normal thing fr, I have been playing DL since it came out and never saw this particular thing. Though this happens to me on Slums and Old Town

So here is the thing, if you google this issue you get some interesting information from other people apparently the game had an update at some point which added some sort of event which hyper increased viral spawns as its "thing". When this event ended it never went back to normal and the devs couldn't be bothered to fix it. I am skipping over parts because I cba to type it all out but have a look, no they shouldn't be spawning so much and yes it is a problem that will likely never be fixed.

And to the others the guy probably knows sound attracts them but you could be standing still on a roof and suddenly their arrows appear on the mini-map and they lock onto you very fast.
as someone who is playing hard mode, this is painful

Genuinely annoying, I make no noise yet have 4-9 spawn depending on period of the day, its always morning or near night time. Never in the middle of the day.

Even if the feature itself might have been introduced through a bug of some sort,
I'm glad it wasn't fixed or changed after that.
Like, do people even think for a moment how stale combat might turn out to be in the
end - all you got to fight are Biters, some humans in the form of Rais thugs or the Rais
recruited hostile survivors, the occasional Toad, maybe even a Goon and / or a Bomber,
and that's about it.

If people knew Virals can be completely ignored through stealth, silenced weapons etc.,
no person would EVER do anything that might trigger their spawns.
Just like some ignore night exploration entirely thanks to the Volatiles, and the Night
Walkers to an extent which are the Night equivalents of the Virals.
At least with them spawning every now and then, combat changes every now and then,
and makes you consider staying AFK at a safehouse doing whatever in the meantime as the
only way to ignore them entirely.

Not to mention the fact they seem to have even less HP than their sluggish counterparts - the Biters (with some exceptions like the infected police officers and soldiers), so they're even easier to take out - usually, depending on the weapon, a single blow to the head, or
a swing at the neck decapitates them instantly. Why are people making such a fuss about something that's relatively easy to handle ?

1.
You point out combat is stale, Do you even play Nightmare difficulty? One hit is 57 HP, and virals deal about 90 hp in 2 seconds.
2.
If a game makes me AFK for 30 minutes because a feature is plain stupid, then it's the games fault. Simple as that, the bug is annoying and there is no denying it.
3. A Viral takes 1-2 melee throw hits to the face with a 3.3k DMG weapon to kill, but 4-8 stabs/hacks/slashes to the head, that's a Volatile on Normal difficulty.

Seriously does NOBODY here know about Nightmare difficulty??? OR do they actively pick to ignore it for their own convenience??? Nightmare is another level of bullcrap, especially if the game throws infinite virals at me for 15 minutes straight, I can't easily kill them even with high DPS Legendary weapons. Another factor is the fact that theres NO INTERVAL AT ALL for the spawning rate of the virals, if you hit something with a flaming weapon or if you go out in the morning/close to night time, you will get absolutely swarmed and gang banged by a bunch of high DPS biters that can also climb buildings and follow in close pursuit unless you're lvl 24 Athletic (max lvl). If they're easy to handle, why do we see them be viable run killers for One hit kill speedrunners??? Wouldn't be a fuss if it wasn't for the 34 damage on normal difficulty scaling 3x as much on Nightmare, that's just cancer :D

My first ever game as a returning player all the way from 2017 just 3 months ago
was set on Hard.
Then I created a 2nd one on Nightmare but I accidentally deleted it midway through,
and now after switching my OG save from Hard to Nightmare for 100+ hours raiding the Prison, going through Bozak's challenges at least 20 times by now, and free roaming for
at least 60 solid hours, I just started Nightmare New Game+

What do all of these have in common you may ask ? I never found Virals difficult to
shake off by either running away even in cases where I didn't enter safehouses, or by outright killing what the game throws at me.

Should I point out how easy and accessible King / Clicker weapon mods, and weapons as
a whole are to find and grind for even without a maxed out character on Legend lvl 250 ?

Even then, 2-3 hits at best take a Viral out. Also, what does speedrunning the game have
to do with the topic we're discussing, why even bring that up ? A Biter equipped with a melee weapon throwing it at an unsuspecting player on 1HKO run is enough to kill them too. The issue isn't exclusive to Virals.

The only actual challenge on a Nightmare run or above is the Evolved Volatile in and out of night chases, Virals are not even remotely close to challenging, and don't get me started on how easy dmg can be tanked with something as simple as Resistance Booster.

This response of yours sounded like nothing more than a skill issue imo, and I intend no disrespect whatsoever. Even if it's as diff as you describe, support for the game was stopped permamently based on Techland's response in regards to the DL Points, specifically in the QnA paragraph dedicated to whether DL1 would see the DL Points introduced to it as well, so no matter how many people complain about it, or how many threads get created on Steam, or elsewhere for that matter, it will most likely remain unresolved / unfixed forever.

If you're so insistent about the Virals being so difficult to play against, then the only thing close to a solution for someone in your case would be to download and install one of the many available mods over at NexusMods that disables Virals either partially or fully based on your preference.

Key word, legend lvl 250 character, Got it, you're not thinking about any other players but yourself, you're full of it.

You ignored all of my other points and talked about something I didn't even say, strawman argument, You completely ignored the fact I mentioned biters and that even with a 3.3k damage single handed weapon virals have too much HP.
Untill you can get valid points, don't come back, All I can say is I am sorry for anybody who had to read your statement just to scroll down and find out it's not even a valid argument.
personally i like it, makes the game slightly harder

Bro no offense, but the only one that does not have an argument its you, i was level 62 of Legend skill tree, and you're right about the Virals Spawning a lot, but it's not even that hard to deal with them with a 3.5k weapon. Of course, if you plan on staying fighting 6 Virals at the same time, you're gonna get deleted, that's why the game also have the skill tree of Agility, in some cases, it's better to run from them than fighting them, and that's what makes the game more intense. Btw, Virals even in Nightmare, can get killed easily with 3 shots, while regular zombies can hold from 5-7 shots with the same weapon (Except THE FOLLOWING, in this DLC the regular zombies can get killed with 1-2 shots of a 3.5k weapon). But answering your question, i don't know if the Viral Spawn was really a bug or it was supposed to be like that, not enough info in that, but if you think its to hard for you to deal with them, you can switch your game difficulty to Normal or Hard, and you can get 1 shot kill on virals with your 3.5k weapon.

"...can't easily kill them even with high DPS Legendary weapons"
you said this, and this says everything. If you want to kill them easily, mod your weapons like noobs do or switch your difficulty to Easy. The guy on top was trying to give you some arguments, and he did. Another thing its that you don't want to understand just because you're mad about not playing the game "Easily". Games aren't meant to be easy in the Hardest difficulty.
