No it's not a good idea.
So... we should lose survivor points for surviving? Makes sense.
Read first reply.
So... you advance your character by doing quests in a quest-based game? The horror!
Just kidding. Yoru suggestion is super nice. Perhaps they could implement it along with my idea of cutting off the legs of Crane, because I dislike how they look, and no matter how many times I jump off from a high place, those ugly legs just won't break.
Wow, that wasn't even clever. It's about slowing the ridiculously fast leveling process. And in case you missed it, I say at least in hard mode. There's still room for "people like you" in this game. :)
And a big "lol" at "so you don't want to level up". Yeah-- I really said "Stop it entirely". Cause that would make sense, like you twisting my words.
Sleeping through the night is the easy way out. That's all. The only real challange I find in Hard mode is at night, and being able to avoid it penalty free is not very "hard" IMO. I guess I am just looking at the opposite end of the spectrum-- if you are awarded points for surviving outside the safe zones at night, while hiding out is clearly the opposite.
So, you're response to this is "Likely"..? ;P.
I, personally, was looking to find every available weapon at each of the different tiers that are there as you level. At one point, trying to keep from leveling beyond the current range I was working on, I found it took several intentional deaths, over and over again, to keep from gaining way more XP then I would lose. Of course a person could do this if they put forth the effort, but that's just it-- I can't believe how much effort it took.
Not a normal circumstance, I know, but it sure made the penalty seem VERY redundant to me.
Yes, and the rate which you gain XP is almost impossible to hinder through penalties. For example, a quest could grant you 15,000xp, and if you die 6 times in the process of completing it, you still come out with 10,000xp or more.
As for your experiment with weapons, you coulld try using a memory editor to lock your experience and/or level until you're ready to keep progressing. Either that, or wait for the modding tool to be out.
I'll go ahead and admit that I've been level 25 since I've started Hard, so I've never seen any amounts to judge in that. Since all the leveling is easily completed on a normal playthrough, I couldn't help but feel like it's kinda.. cheesey... :/
A friend just told me he lost 10,000 points from each death in the Museum boss fight on Hard. Being that he's around level ~22 or so, That still seems a modest amount for the circumstance. I guess I just think it should be a serious challange to level up in Hard mode, since it doesn't take much to give you all you need. And a player could always take the easier, less challanging, and perhaps most importantly "less time consuming" route to max level on normal first.
What I'm driving at doesn't just suggest making the game "balls to the wall" hard, but opening up a way for a real challange, should you accept it.
And I still think being able to sleep through the actual challange in hard mode is kinda sad. Perhaps may be more fitting as a mod. I imagine something to the effect of having time stop when in safe zones at night, and being left with two choices: Go out in the night and fight or run for your survival, or pay/lose some precious points to take it easy. I'm sure it would work just fine if at the right degree. What would it hurt if all it took was the same amount you'd get for saving a survivor at your level.? That might not be enough to produce the desired effect, but certainly would be easy to compensate if that low, right?
Thanks for reading. :)
What you're suggesting will likely be a reality once the modding tool is out; many people have shown interest for a hardcore and more realistic game experience, and I'm sure someone will deliver.
With the game at its current state, you have the option of nerfing or buffing yourself to your liking, to a certain extent.
ie; I recently set myself a rul of not using weapons which you wouldn't normally find in a city, so you'll likely see me running around with baseball bats and knives, instead of medieval swords, and also limit myself to carrying two or three weapons, since I don't like the idea of someone parkouring all over a city while carrying 50 swords on their back.
A few weeks ago, I remember playing with a guy who had this rule for himeself, about not using the hook, and never fast traveling.
You could simply play in a way that suits your ideal game; don't sleep during nights, and if you want to lose more points each death, then simply let zombies kill you 4 times -random number for the sake of an example- anytime you die, so you lose 5x the points.
