Fix for default_levels.xml being disabled
If you have a modified default_levels.xml file (no weapon degragation, etc.) in the /my documents/dying light/, the 1.4 patch broke its use.

To get it to work again, I made a backup of my data0.pak file located in \Steam\SteamApps\common\Dying Light\DW\

I then copied my edited default_levels.xml file into the data0.pak with 7zip. Inside the archive it gets put in data\skills\.

BE SURE TO MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF Data0.pak BEFORE YOU DO THIS, IN CASE IT GOES WRONG!

This will work with other files as well (common_skills.xml, perks.xml, etc.).

I do not understand what this statement means, as far as I knew 7zip was for compressing & uncompressing files & I do not know what I'm missing, apparently 7zip has more functions than I'm aware of. When right clicking on the file, though & going to 7zip, the options are
"add to archive,"
"compress & email,"
"add to default levels7z,"
"compress to default levels7z & email,"
"add to default levels zip,"
"compress to default levels zip & email."
Those are the options, none others are available. Where is this "copy into" function that you speak of? 7zip doesn't even copy let alone paste or "copy into".
What am I missing?

There is no "copy into" button or function in plain sight.

-open data0.pak with 7zip (right click, open with, select 7zip File Manager)
-with the file open, navigate to the "data" folder, then the "skills" folder
-drag the modified xml into that folder, overwriting original.
-it will ask you if you want to add the xml to data0.pak... select yes
-done

Wow, thanks man I had never even seen that interface before. I was trying to figure out python & all this other unnecessary garbage...

I know this is an old, old thread, but I'm going to revive it, as I've been trying to modfy the game files for a couple weeks now.

This no longer seems to work, have they patched it yet again?

It's possible. I haven't played or modded this game in quite awhile.

It's not working for me, either. At least, my manual edits of the files haven't changed anything in game. I'm using CLM Weapon Packs mod off nexus and it works perfectly. So, I'm not sure why my edits don't do anything.
