I need some help.. LAN / VPN help..
Im seriously running out of options to play with my friends and co-workers..
I started using VPN services a few years ago..
Started out with Hamachi. Well, that didn't last long since i got alot of connection problems with it. And many games couldn't even recognize it..

So i started using Evolve, which i never got around to use.. since it just didn't seem to do anything. Made a lobby, friends joined, fired up the game, and we still couldn't connect. Like if the whole VPN software wasn't there.

GameRanger was good, but they lack alot of supported games, i'll use it if i want to play a game that is supported there.

Then Tunngle, it was the best VPN service i have ever used, right up untill today. I tried using it after a long business trip in Spain. Well.. my version was out dated, so i updated it. But for some reason, everyone was appearing with a red X.. (once again). i tried everything. Firewalls off , Special grants for Tunngle via the antivirus. Tried downloading patches for various different problems that might have caused the red X to appear.
Nothing worked, so i uninstalled Tunngle, completely.
Tried removing everything "Tunngle" related in my hard drive.. well that went to ♥♥♥♥ real fast.
Some files "weren't there anymore" and couldn't be removed..
So i tried to download Tunngle again, only to be recieved by several errors which require some serious skill , time and determination to fix... I just gave up.. nothing i tried worked..

Now, i have always had my struggles with my ports.. (Who would have though, right?)
Every port forward setup has always and everytime failed.. the latest being trying to port forward tunngle via my PCs router.. which i apparently don't have in my PC.

Not the mention the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tech support of my internet provider... ♥♥♥♥ them.

So, now im stuck here.. clueless on what to do and in some serious need for help and recommendations on what to do.

If anyone can recommend any other VPN software, or some port forward guides.. maybe a Tunngle fix? I can provide you with details of my problems with the different software and the ports.
I'd greatly appriciate any help..

To play with my collegues from work, and to play with my friends.
Like i said, i have tried alot of different software.

I like to make my own private LAN servers, give my friends an unique experience. And to play without any trolls around, i like to mess around with things in my own server.

Do you know, that you can just change online options within the game itself? Just make your game private and send some invites. If you want to be invaded, set it to public and still send invites. If someone else connects to your game, just kick him .. easy as it can be ..

Im not talking about Dying Light here (Which works perfectly with the internet connection via Steam)

Im talking about games in general. Especially the ones that need LAN for coop (ArmA 3 for instance)

hi,
i know this is an old topic but i am facing the same problem: a lot of these vpn service are now terminated. I'll add to OP's list : wippien, unite, and lanbridger. I was using the last one (mostly because it was the lightest and simplest of all) until a couple of month it went offline.

This is most unfortunate because some games are laggy like hell when you play via steam (i'm mostly thinking about Civilization 5), and were perfectly fine when playing lan mode via a vpn.

Hey,
I managed to get "Evolve" to work, i don't know why it didn't work back then but it does now.
Its very simple to use:
1. Register
2. Download the software
3. Log on
4. Add your friends into your friends list
5. Create a LAN group (note that the group maker doesn't need to host the game, anyone in the group can do it.)
5. Get your friends into the group by inviting them.
6. Fire up a LAN server on any game
7. Profit

I was a little surprised to be honest when this thread popped up on my notifications, i hope i can be any help.

Thank you for the quick answer.
My problem with Evolve is its up to 300Mb of memory consumption, which is something seriously wrong for a vpn. I think the dev wanted to do too much with it and this thing is 90% of useless feature and memory leaking. This is most unfortunate since this software is made by the same team which used to dev Lanbridger.
But i guess i'll try again since it seems there is no other option at all.

Yeah, its litterally the only working VPN software available for me at least.
