We’re working on solving issues some of you are experiencing with Dying Light.
You can help us fix them faster! Just create a Dxdiag file and send it together with your Logs and Dumps files
to piotr.leusz@techland.pl.
How to do it:
1. Create a Dxdiag file. Read how here: http://en.support.techland.pl/support/solutions/articles/4000042573-creating-dxdiag-file
2. Copy all your Logs files. You can find them on your computer in: My Documents\dyinglight\out\logs\
3. Copy all your Dumps files. You can find them on your computer in: steam\steamapps\common\Dying Light\dumps\
4. Attach all these files and SEND WITH YOUR STEAM PROFILE NAME AND TOPIC'S URL. !!!
5. Send it to: piotr.leusz@techland.pl
This will help us immensely in fixing the issues you may have.
The display on the left side stopped showing and could not use any equipment with MMB.
Select the items you want to throw with your middle mouse button, (have them in the slots), THEN press the Number 1 on the left side of your keyboard for the throw items to display on the left side of the screen... Keep pressing the number 1 to cycle through firecrackers, drinks, Molotov coctails, etc....
You might have to be outside of a safe zone to see them on your HUD
First step is to reassign the action to another key and try it.
First, the caveat. There is an option in the game for Throwing Melee Weapons ... which is not your main question ... you can set it to set yourself up to throw with EITHER a single right mouse click or a double right mouse click, then you will hold the throwing stance, and hit left click to throw -- at least that's my memory of it.
Ok, now for the Throwing Weapons. I found that MMB was either not recognized well or was doing double duty, and since the situation that triggers each duty is contextual, meaning what is in the environment near you, I reassigned the MMB key to something else.
Ok, so I use the G key to throw a Throwing Weapon. Think of it as the Grenade key. It is near a powerful finger, your index finger steps once to the right, and it is a not infrequent choice in some FPS games with lots of different weapons.
Ok, so what do I make the MMB do. Well, I use it as the Interact with loot key, basically instead of what most games use E to do, or what perhaps Dying Light defaults to F to do.
Then I remap F to kick, since I often use that in a FPS Wargame as the rifle melee attack, etc. I almost never use E at all in this game. Some of all this was part of adjusting to the earlier Dead Island original game, which uses slightly different defaults than Dying Light.
This makes it easy for me to remember. It also means that if I have a game with leaning, I can still use Q and E for leaning around a wall and having partial cover, so no bad habits are created by Dying Light. MMB was often used by me instead of E anyway, for using or looting or activating an object in the environment. The reasoning is that the more often I can move to evade without having another finger on another key on the same hand, the easier it is to dodge or evade. So I try to avoid using E at the same time as the WASD keys, at least in action. So I can loot easily with MMB which is my mouse hand, while I evade. Kicking in most games is pretty easy to know when to do, and you can hit F or G as you other fingers handle WASD.
I've now used my Dying Light Setup for keybinds in most games of recent vintage, as I find that it allows me to think in what is mostly a learned very active and reflexive process. However, my lack of practice using the E key is now problematic and can hurt me with the Grab and Grab and Toss mechanic. Since another used of MMB in the game is to fight the grip of Volatiles, that works also okay, as I'm used to finding the MMB key.
Anyway, so maybe try making the Throw or Use Gear key as G. The only other place you may find it unintuitive, I think, is for using the UV Light or Grappling Hook. However, Grappling starts with G, and UV Light or Shield Blocking with G are not too bad. My biggest issue is if I use G too much, I tend with older fingers to forget to stay ready on my F key, but that's because I don't practice enough using Q (for Danger Sense or whatever) correctly as I used to.
So if you have a stiffer MMB for scroll fuction or mouse wheel, like with ratcheting sound, then it might be okay. But otherwise, it might be too loose and cause issues.
