Final mission is great!...if your name is Mario
The final run through the sewers to Rais is a glorified Super Mario Brothers level. What the heck!?! Harran feels like a city that could actually exist, but then along come this extended "sewer lines and death pits" gauntlet that feels like a Miyamoto nightmare come to life. I say "BOO!" Techland. The whole game revolves around parkour. How about giving us alternate ways to get to Rais rather than one lame-a$$ rail shooter?

Don't even get me started on that lame QTE ending either, the whole finale was anti-climactic especially following the big pit fights with our first two Rais encounters. The whole story was ♥♥♥♥ anyway. Why did we have to burn perfectly good antizin when we could have kept it for ourselves at least?

TBH I weren't too bothered by that as a concept. After all, the rest of the game is simply a run & jump platformer at it's heart. Being inside a tunnel and doing the same thing only adds a little constraint to it.

The worst part about it was that once you go through the door and you realise that you're severly under prepared you're already screwed. You just have to run the course and hope! And then there's the disappointment of the QTE...

I really liked the whole story. All the bad £$%& that happened could have been avoided if he hadn't burned that Antizin! I even liked the ending. I was worried they were going to do some lame "now Rais is a super bad Zombie hybrid" ending. I hate those endings. He's jusst a normal ♥♥♥♥♥♥. The whole fear humans more than Zombies thing. If it wasn't QTE ending you would have just run up to him and cut his head off in 2 seconds. It fit the feel of the game and concluded the game nicely. It even left it open for people like me who wanted to continue enjoying Haran after finishing.

I'd have opted for "The Pit" mission doing away with the pit and using that segment just prior to getting to Rais at the end game. Would have made much more sense.

This is what happens when they try to stretch games out to look like there's more there than there really is. The lesson learned is less is often more.

That's what I want to do - finish this final mission so I can go back and earn more achievements :-)

The only real problem with the Sewer Run is if you fall just once, you have to start the whole damn thing over again!

You WILL fail a few times because you are learning the course and getting your timing down, but they shouldn't punish you for this, IMO. I don't think the majority of us are "L33T Gamerz" who can do this run in one go... If you can, my hats off to you and I'll buy you a beer at the next Safe Zone :)

However, once you learn the course, you can really avoid almost everything by just using the catwalks and spamming flares, UV lamps because you know when the Volatiles are going to pop up and it becomes more of section of timing vs. skill.

The flares were key for me.
I never used flares. I always just ran when the Volatiles found me during the night. But I did have 40 or so Zed's Flares in my backpack.

That run through the sewer went okish. But at one point, there were always a few Volatiles that had caught up with me. And they'd kill me. Just before the last part. But I didn't know that at the time (that I was almost there). Then I remembered the flares. I dropped a flare every 20-30 seconds or so. So that the chasing Volatiles would stop for a while. And I only had to deal with the ones popping up in front of me. Once I did that, it was an easy run.

This game really encourages you to use all tricks available. Just walking around with a shotgun is no good. You need to use everything. Height, parkour, speed, melee attacks, kicking, weapon modifications, sometimes guns, sneaking, anything this game offers is useful. In other games I usually develop a pattern to fight through the game, and use only that pattern. E.g. using only one type of weapon. Or the cloak->sprint->hide. Or hide->pop head up->shoot->kill->hide.
Not so in Dying Light. I felt encouraged to try everything.
And I enjoyed it.

LOL OMG had to laugh at this yeah kinda feel like Mario .... funny stuff

I didn't like the ending either. I must have died 20 times getting through the sewers, up the building, and finally killing Rais. Should have been a lot easier.
Nordom Feb 23, 2015 @ 7:37pm
Just finished it. The sewers were definitely the low point but the brutally unforgiving QTEs were a close second. Still, I made it, so I've got that going for me, which is nice.

While yeah, the QTE was bleh, I don't get complaining about being unprepared...

I mean the game stops you and says "hey bro, this is the final encounter! Period! Don't go through if you're not ready!

Press T if you are ready"

So, uh, it's kinda on you if you waltz in and somehow run out of supplies in the middle of the mission. Which I say "somehow" because ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I was overflowing with everything by the end of the final mission. Like I had over 100+ of every crafting item but the enemy drops (seriously had enough booze and gauze to make 200+ medpacks...) and was so OP by the final mission I just bought a Katana at the tower and beefed it up so much that I was killing everything in 1-2 hits.
EnchantedChaos Feb 26, 2015 @ 12:50pm
Not to mention the glitch some people are getting where the crane next to Rais's tower explodes far too early for the player to leap. My game is unplayable because of that.
Frag Maniac Feb 26, 2015 @ 5:14pm
Never used any flares my first run through for the parkour escape part of Extraction. It's really just a matter of hitting the jump queues and knowing the route. I suppose it might depend on what frame rate you're getting though. It can affect run speed.

I was playing through The Museum again last night on New Game +, and it occurred to me, if they wanted to have the final battle a human against human one, they really should have had Tahir stay with Rais as his bodyguard.

They could have had that battle in the museum against just Tahir's men, and maybe had two or 3 waves of them, or against turned Jade then one wave. Both The Pit and The Museum had elements that should have been saved for the final mission.

After the battles with the Devastator in The Pit, and Tahir at The Museum, the one with Rais feels like a silly dysfunctional kid game thing. It was almost laughable.
