Linux crash: Materials database was not correctly initialized
Hi I have Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64bit, with Nvidia GTX 560Ti

When launching the game I get the following:
Materials database was not correctly initialized. Please make sure that global_*.mp files are present in Assets_XXX (platform specific) folder or in build Data folder.

It is a startup crash.

In the bug list it is reported as Fedora only problem, but I believe it is bigger issue.

This issue looks like a fundamentallly trivial problem (can't find a file becasue of some issue with the path).

Anyway, from reading this forum it looks like the issue will not be fixed anytime soon. Has anyone found a workaround (symlink, hexeditor or otherwise)?

On side note how does one get a refund?

Unfortunately no :( .. I have forward all the information to the developers. I have been searching all over the place and still nothing to fix it. I was hoping they would release a patch on Friday to resolve the issues but no dice.

Are you using the default Steam games location or do you use a custom location for your games?

Sure am, ~/home/.steam .......

The game loads up for a second and the error is coming from inside the game. Dont know why it does that.

Ah, hmm. I know one person who had that same error on Linux but they were using a custom download location. They re-installed/copied game files to the standard location and did a Steam properties verify files check, then they no longer had that error.

I am too using default location.

I have submitted a ticket, as well as a copy to piotr.leusz AT techland.pl (as found on other thread).

Hey guys Bacardi help me but are you all running XFS partitions? WE figure in Dead Islands the game wont run on a XFS partition, same computer with EXT 4 and the game runs. Are you all using the XFS partition?

Yes I use XFS. So what is the fix beyond EXT or Windows?
Hovercraft 10 FEB 2015 a las 3:30 a. m.
and why would a game care about what file system it runs, should not it be all abstracted by OS anyway?
DSNGJOE 10 FEB 2015 a las 8:47 a. m.
I have no idea why the game wont run in a XFS partition. I did email the developer about it. Will create a test partition in EXT4 file format and if it runs then that's the fix. I am pretty confident thats the problem now with the research I have done.

The developer did say they have not tested with the XFS file format.

I reinstall game to ext4 partition and game is run.
but it's very slow in compare on windows on same PC, and some effects not present. for example survival sense not have wave on screen. i think the linux version have more simple graphics.

So we have 1 confirm, switching to EXT4 the game runs.
