How to get better performance
This game is so bad optimized, and I just hate how Techland "hides" extra options to lower graphics and make the game playable on low-end systems. I have "found" a easy, quick way to get the texture setting to "Low" , view distance lower than possible in the game settings, shadowresolution thingy "512" . I aplogize for my english , 'cause, tbh , is there any tutorial with perfect english :D? Alright so,what you have to do is go to:
MY DOCUMENTS>DYING LIGHT>OUT>SETTINGS (you will need notepad++ for this to work, just quickly download it) and right click "video" and edit with notepad++.
DON'T make any changes to the lines with a " ! ".
The config should look like this:

!SpotShadowMapSize(i)
!Fullscreen()
!VSync() // enable vertical sync
!GrassQuality(i) // lower is better
!NvidiaEffects(i,i) // enable extra nvidia effects(hbao+,dof)
!ExtraGameFov(f) // extra fov
!VisRange(f,f)
!OculusEnabled() // enable support for Oculus
!AmbientOcclusion(i) // 1 - enable; 0 - disable
!MotionBlur(i) // 1 - enable; 0 - disable
!AntiAliasing(i) // 1 - enable; 0 - disable
!DisableDWM(i) // disables DWM when fullscreen
!Version(i)

Resolution(800,600) // Choose 800,600 for huge performance improvement
Monitor(0)
TextureQuality("Low") // Medium/High performance improvement
VisRange(1.00, 1.00) // A must-have,won't ruin graphic quality at all,but will increase FPS
ShadowMapSize(512) // Will make shadows barely noticeable
SpotShadowMapSize(512)
GammaFloat(1.00)
GrassQuality(0) // I think this was set to 2 originally, set to 0 for better performance
AmbientOcclusion(0)
MotionBlur(0)
AntiAliasing(0)
DisableDWM(1)
Version(1)

Hope this helps anyone, haven't seen this anywhere else so I thought I should post here.
Also you can copy/paste the "config" as "//" means commentary and won't crash your game or anything. If you have any problems just contact me.

Taken a look at your profile. You have 1 hour played in the last two weeks, and you only play Free2Play games. This leads me to believe two things. 1: You torrented the game. 2: Your PC is dreadful.

You're complaining about bad optimization when your computer is inevitably terrible. Stop complaining. This game is difficult to run because the graphics are incredible, and you're running around busy environments.

The above 'fixes' may indeed work, but your game will look like garbage. Utter garbage.

Have to agree with OldWorld. I'm having few problems the game with all settings either 'on' or set to 'High'. My rig ain't the greatest, but with a GTX760 2GB and an Intel iCore7 Quad and 12GB of RAM I'm having a blast. 28hrs of play time, so far!

Save it, right click, properties, click READ ONLY. You must ALWAYS click read only for config/ini file edits or the game will generally over ride them. Dying Light will over ride them if you go into graphic options menu and/or change a setting.

So if anybody is looking for the proper file to edit these settings on a macbook/macos, then it's at

/Users/ {your username} /Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Dying Light/DW/out/Settings/Video.scr

also, if you modify the file, you'd be better off setting it as read only (no write access) as the game overwrites it otherwise.

Real question, why exactly do you feel the need to spam this copy pasted stuff again on another old discussion? Are you actually serious, or trolling?

I always wonder why people call this game unoptimized, in my eyes it's really well optimized. I play it with 72fps locked, on GPU from 2015 and 1440p resolution, no issues at all, runs smooth.

Depends on what GPU you bought in 2015.
Clean OS, i9 9900KF, 16GB, R9 380 and i get a solid 60fps but that's later than 2015.

980Ti and Titan X released in 2015 and that'd run this like 100fps 1440p coupled with a i7 6700K.
Some times some systems just seem to run well. Luckily mines runs pretty well for tthe mid tier 2016 gpu

game has run perfect on max settings ever since I got it over 6 years ago. Pay attention to the recommended not the required specs needed and you will be fine. Macs suck no surprise.
W10, AMD Ryzen 3 3200G, 8GB Ram, MB Prime A320M-K, Nvida G-Force 1650, installed on HDD (not the SSD).

Runs fine over 80 FPS get a solid 60 FPS when crazy action is going on. Considering I played this on the PS4 30 FPS five times well I am happy with anything over 30 FPS lol.

(spoiler alert: they even did when that was still not funny 10 years ago)
