Don't lose your patience, don't lose your cool.
Make sure the gate is locked, so no further enemy reinforcement could arrive.
Eliminate the lesser ones.
Then do the dance. Whack, whack, leap backwards to avoid the smash.
Run in, whack, whack to the head. Rinse and repeat.

Just sleep till night, find an easy access safe zone. Just climb around, kill some regulars. If Volatiles spotted you, run back. Bla bla. It's not hard to level.

Just one of many ways.
If you have an electric damage weapon, you can kill them pretty easily by crafting some conductive liquid and drenching him then zapping him.
Also, explosives work relatively well, but of course, that draws virals.
Some might suggest fire, but honestly, that never did much for me. I'd have to throw 15 or more molotovs to actually kill one of them. They seem pretty resistant.
Honestly, the best strategy I had when my character was a noob... was just avoiding them. They're pretty slow. It's not that difficult to simply lure them away from objectives and avoid them entirely. With the exception of that one you're fighting, of course, so I guess that tip isn't very helpful...

So go figure, when you're using a water pipe.
I've never seen mollies have much of an effect of them.
Hell, I've seen two of them wade around in an electrified pool for five minutes and not care.
