Controller or Mouse and Keyboard?
This strikes me as one of those games that is much easier with a controller than the mouse and keyboard, what have you guys found to be the better choice?

I just had the same thought. I looks like it is much easier to run around using a controller. Game feels like it was made to play with it not mouse and keyboard.

It was a console port, so it should a little more at ease with controllers. That being said, I do find the controller layout a bit questionable... it's not where I would've put the jump button.

Game plays fine on both. I played several hours on both but preferred M+KB in the end.

i use a controller and i find its a lot more comfortable, when i play Dead Island i always use a controller as well. pick up a xbox 360 controller, its all plug and play no searching for drivers :)

I'll try M&K first, I'll update the thread if I find one better than the other. I hear people frustrated with falling and dying, wondering what they are using.

That's almost my exact thought process, I figured it would be better, but wtf with the jump button? Wasn't sure I could do that.

lol agreed i find myself constantly spamming the A button then realizing that the button layout is a little different from the Dead Island layout. it seems its the only button they changed in the layout. but after an hour or so of playing i got the hang of pressing the RB instead so its not all that bad

M&K, I find it very hard to play to a FPS with the controller

1,2,w,a,s,d,q,g,b, shift, space, lmb, rmb, mmb, scroll wheel, etc., etc.
The controls are all over the place, and variable. Constantly changing positions leads to a lot of misfired actions.
Try switching from your dying flashlight, to a flare, while looking back and running, changing weapons, using survivor sense, and parkouring.
You are able, and expected to do so.
I don't know if it is better with a pad, but it is cumbersome at best with kb+m.
