Exactly. This is 2015, not freaking Everquest. Dying penalty didn't stick in games for a reason, the majority of gamers don't care for it.
It certainly does not add to the "fear factor" or make surviving a "special event." It just serves to piss me off something fierce when I die, and prevents me from trying new things that might be risky.
It serves the purpose of making things that might otherwise be scary or interesting, like a bloater exploding when you open a door, and makes them irritating as hell.
I already know when I quit it will be because of some stupid ass death that irritated me and I decided to try something else for a bit and ended up enjoying it more.
I have to deal with consequence all GD day, the point of gaming is to have a release from that. Maybe we should have jobs too? Do some manual labor for 10 hours and and then be allowed to run around in the city for like an hour after work? You have to eat sleep piss and ♥♥♥♥ too, or you die and lose xp... Could we get tax return into the game for DLC maybe? How about 1 death and the game is over unless you get a new copy?
While we are on the topic, I wish someone would make a movie that is just 2 hours of a typical work day. Maybe read some reports, go over numbers, answer some emails. Sign a birthday card for someone in accounting we don't even know. Sure she has a decent rack, but she's super married to a crazy cop, so you can't even risk looking at her much. Something fun and exciting like that. One can only dream!
Make it a difficulty level, people who want that can do it.
While I agree that sometimes serious penalties should be optional, I do feel like pentalties are necessary. Death SHOULD be worth something, otherwise, what's the point in even trying? If you can just breeze through a survival game without even trying or worrying about survival, what's the point?
By the way, if you really can't stand the penalty and want to try risky / fun things, do it as soon as you level up. If you have no points to lose on your current level, you'll lose 0 points when you die.

Train harder and build better weapons and stay away from Guns...
its not much of a challenge more of an annoyance. it would only be a challenge if it deleted your save, even having a point system isnt realistic, thats not how life works.
A challenge would be a DLC with only stun kills and stomp, while being forced to only use guns with modifications and I do not mean weapon effects.. Increase ammo by 25-50% and I enjoy instances like Quarantine, so perhaps more in depth instances with smarter human AI.
This games needs an option to be a strick FPS, hands on arse kicking experience.
Now you're just being pedantic. They were referring to the challenge of staying alive, trying to avoid the penalty.
And they're right; losing 4000 points or whatever means absolutely nothing, since you can easily get them back again by collecting a couple of Airdrops, so why bother trying hard to stay alive?
Casual.
Lol, exactly.
I heard they might come out with a hard mode so hopefully something like that will be implemented.
