Avoiding Volatiles ...
Has anyone successfully completed a night vs them , I cannot find any way to get within 500 clicks of the safezone without being spotted or making some unfortunate mistake such as stepping on a branch that draws them in from miles away , any tips or ideas as to how to pass this area would be greatly appreciated.
Side note , my inventory says I have a UV flashlight , it supposedly stops volatiles from chasing you , but the flashlight does nothing to them other than to let me see them kill me faster. Possible bug.

I have made it a full night a couple times without a single interaction with a volatile. My problem is that firecrackers don't work on volatiles like it says they are supposed to. Can't do a mission to get a sample of another zombie without getting the volatiles away and you are supposed to use firecrackers to do that.

On average this mission pits me vs 10 at any givin time on my map , haven't ever seen less than 4 , have had 0 luck in almost 40 attempts , about to uninstall it.

Friend and I made it through multiple nights without getting seen by a single volatile.
Just stay on the roof and watch their movement patterns, it really isn't that hard.

You know you can get a friend to help you instead right? I know it's frustrating...I am dealing with the same thing but it isn't worth giving up because of it.
Aye just did that side mission for technician. And did it at night as he said. Avoided them just by playing it stealthy. So crouching all the time. Flashlight off. And waiting for them to pass by. It was pretty darn awesome and so much different from my day killing spree.

Easy way to farm survival exp at night is to find a multi-floor house(or any room off ground level)
with as few open windows as possible and just chill there at night and do some zombie watching(turning off music really adds to ambience) remember to stay crouched at all times, stay away from windows and dont jump or hit anything with your weapon.

its easy to survive at night, even easier if you take your time and dont run everywhere. The game goes to stealth gameplay at night not fighting, so crouching around and actually using your map to avoid the enemy keeps you alive. Also the UV torch does work, it only repels them for abit though.

I've done many night runs now, and to be honest the only time a volatile touched me
(Not killed) was on the mission to get a meat sample of another zombie

That missions was really simple, there is one place with a shelter right across the street

All i did was, ran across the street
Threw a exploding ninja star at the blobthing, picked up the meat and ran back

As far as i understand them, they only care about you once you are inside their view range
So you can run, jump and climb around them
Just do not get inside their viewrange (Look at the radar)

I've never used traps or equipment to hinder or stop them, however the UV light needs to be used via the middlemouse button
(Oh and i have not noticed a single zombie noticing my flashlight, i use it with care however i am not sure if they can spot the light or not)

This will stop them for a few seconds (Seen on youtube)

So in short
Look at the radar, do not be inside their view cone.
And you should be golden
(Running and climbing has not drawn any attention to me)

This sounds really elitist i notice that, i do not mean to sound like that
Only trying to help

I'm probably going to need multiplayer help with this , I'm 0/ 50 it's the first mission back to the base after burning all the anticen , this is beyond frustrating and nothing Im doing even swapping tactics is not helping me , not sure what the deal is but even being sneaky unless there is a skill on the tree making you 100% silent I cant see a way around this . PS they do see the light , well volatiles do.
AgentGeekboy Jan 29, 2015 @ 5:06pm
that mission is absurd, don't feel bad that you failed it, they designed it to make you weary of going out at night and to show you the power of the volitiles.

I kill them with 1 shot on average now. Uv flares are a must. If you have friends, get one to use a uv flashlight and stun them while you throw flares. If you're too low level then you wont do enough damage, however you cna still smack them int he face until they die. That's the best way. I've killed as many as 20 in one night, and when I had 4 people with me we killed even more.
Zargas Jan 29, 2015 @ 5:09pm
How far in the game is this?
I cant remember burning the Anticen, is this in the old town?

(Just been lucky with my flaslight then i guess)

Oh I forgot to mention, Deep Silver did a decent job on volitiles so even if you one shot them, they ARE still a threat. If you get pounced with no friends nearby I promise you will die. They wont let you throw a flare.

It's the mission after you setup Spike's traps and near the end of learning about airdrops
Zargas Jan 29, 2015 @ 5:14pm
Oh, that is many many many hours ago
Yeah when you throw them into the burning barrel, ah right remember

i just kind of ran/jumped my way back up to the shelter building
