Is this quest a side quest? because I'm seriously thinking in don't finish it just to keep the gun with me.

My game gave him the Anti-Gadoid gun in New Game+ lols

I dropped Rai's Gun just before handing it just in case

There needs to be ability to choose which gun to give. It gave Dawud my 219 damage German 9mm Pistol, and that was the only pistol I ever found which was above 159 damage. Now I can't find the same damage pistol again. I thought it would give Dawud the gun in my bag, but it gave him the gun I equipped. So stupid. And there was no warning also.

In the sewers on the way to Old Town (after the Savior guard leads you to a group of people). He is with his son before you enter the water tunnel. You can talk to him, but it is not necessary to do so.

Ehm, what if I went to the Old Town first and then did the mission of Dawud? Where can I find him now?

There should be a sidemission in old town after you've done the Dawud missions in the slums. Not sure if it shows up or not if you didn't meet him in the sewers.

Four years late to the reply, sorry about that. I'm mainly writing this just for anyone who is currently having issues with this. If you fast travel to Old Town around an ingame day or two after completing the Gunslinger quest, Dawud will contact you over the radio asking for help.
