I'm not getting how removing the grain gives you a better performance, but kudos to you.

Only the coders could tell you that.

Cool. I wonder if the film grain is the cause of the blurry recordings from Shadowplay? Gonna have to try this.

it gives better performance because it's not just a filter over the entire screen-space its actually a calculated shader put over the screen-space, and it has to be to be honest otherwise it would make certain textures and scenes look like the static on an old tv with no cable hooked up.
it has to look at the scene you see then calculate where to increase or decrease the effect of the shader to where it will have the desired effect.
now as to why it gives such a noticable increase in FPS when this effect has normally been known as a very low overhead shader points to a bad implementation of it in their engine

Good job. Sadly it didn't fix any performance issues what so ever for me. I have a horrible stutter going on, while the rest of the game runs fine. Even if I just stay still and look at a wall my game stutters - like micro-stutters. The game is playable, does not lag at all but always these horrendous stutters. Urghs.

ironborn i get what sounds like the same issue, but its like a distinct hitching ever second or so and only hitches for a split second but constantly ever second. can realy feel it when looking aorund

Exactly! That is it! Freaking horrible. I suppose you have no idea how to fix it?

There should have been a slider implemented for this feature in the video menu.....

have you tried turning textures down a step. i think this game is badly optimized in terms of memory management...

Even on lowest it has these micro-stutters. It does not matter what configuration - I tried it from lowest to highest, turned everything on and off - the hitching remains.

Ran a couple of tests on my 970 @ 1080 regarding VRAM usage and textures.
On HIGH: 3.5 GB VRAM
ON MEDIUM: <2 GB VRAM

Go figure.

Also, just like in the Dead Island games, I found using a mouse and keyboard generates micro-stutters whereas a 360 controller is smooth as silk.

I'm pretty sure it's either a memory leak or not using all CPU cores like some people have been talking about (or both.) There's no difference for me in regards to the film grain, and I'm actually kinda partial to all the film visual effects.

I find that the game begins to run even crappier over long periods of time, so I tend to pitstop at a safehouse, save and restart just to clear it out.

Performance aside, at the very least it makes the game look better. I love how developers add crap like Depth of Field, Motion Blur, Film Grain, and Chromatic Aberration... all post processing effects that make the game like WORSE while taxing performance. Only because Nvidia prods them to do it to hype the latest useless tech on their new GPUs.

I'm going to test some fixes, I have tried the key filtering fix from dead island (did not fix) I also tried turning all settings down to lowest including the resolution (still no fix).

I did notice if i alt tabbed out i could see in the background the game stopped hitching but as soon as i go back into controlling the game it will instantly start.

I also notice in afterburner the gpu usage when i tab out sits comfortable at 98-99% but when controlling the game it will dip every time it stutters/hitches.

i have been tearing my hair out trying to find a fix.... i want to try turning off hyperthreading as maybe its related to that.
