Having the same problem. Google says to swim like crazy, and I found swimming closer to the bottom keeps you alive longer. Still haven't figured it out yet though.

just dive on the bottom of that water.. and go through.. you will barely be hitted.. (logically) :P

First time I died fast; second time I swam all the way at the bottom in the middle and even though I got hit; it didn't reduce my health. Either a bug or intentionally done by developers to let you get through that part.

Yep, did it just then. Swim right to the bottom, then swim through the room and into the tunnel. You should make it through (and up to air) with about half a bar left.

I've got to say as a fan of dead island, I'm absoluetly loving the game, but that part made me want to punch every Techland employee in the junk. I died about 10 times before I realized that the bullets weren't actually doing damage when I was on the bottom, considering the game still gives you the "getting hit" indication. Just awful game design. I'm astonished that made it past QA testing. Thats really my only gripe... that and the fact that the game drops to around 2 fps when a zombie grabs you hahaha

It's not a bug, you're not only less visible, the deeper you go in water the more slowed the bullets are.

"All supersonic bullets (up to .50-caliber) disintegrated in less than 3 feet (90 cm) of water, but slower velocity bullets, like pistol rounds, need up to 8 feet (2.4 metres) of water to slow to non-lethal speeds. Shotgun slugs require even more depth (the exact depth couldn’t be determined because their one test broke the rig). However, as most water-bound shots are fired from an angle, less actual depth is needed to create the necessary separation."

And penalty for death is nothing new in Techland's zombie games. In Dead Island and Riptide you lose 10% of your money when you die. IMO it's better than easy peasey regen health games.

I clipped out and swam around the whole section by climbing up the pipe that goes up (it´s behind you when you get to this section)
