Upgrades, why bother?
What's the point in upgrading weapons when they don't last very long.

The game's design clearly wants you to keep switching weapons, which I completely respect. gotta mix it up. I'm aware there's a talent that can help with repairs. Every time you repair a weapon, you have a chance to repair it without expending a charge, BUT you still can expend a charge. It just feels odd to bother upgrading weapons when upgrades aren't exactly common.

I have both the talent that gives the weapon more durability, and possibly extra repair charges. But I personally like fighting enough that I still burn through weapons fast enough I just can't see any justification for using upgrades.

Like I said, people really want this game to be diablo 2, where they get a cool weapon and its their weapon.

Dying Light gearscore: 9000

Honestly I really like that weapons come and go quite often. I felt it corrected a problem Dead Island had where you got all the weapons you wanted a simply kept repairing them. But I feel like it would have made more sense to make upgrades have infinite uses, nerf them to compensate of course, that's simply my opinion.

I agree. I mean if you have to repair a weapon 2-4 times, and it runs out of it's use, what is the point of upgrading? If you're going to lose that valuable weapon with all the upgrades, might as well not upgrade?

I dunno. Whatever, it's their design on the game, maybe if Modifcations come out or something or future patches which change the balances of items. I have so many upgrades so far, I didn't even bother using it on my weapons. Maybe I'll save it for Legendary (orange) weapons, add a lot of durability to it.

Even when a weapon breaks, you might want to keep it.
My rebar broke and I still use it to throw at enemies and barrels. It is an earth shattering beast, even when broken.

Lol, that's hilarious.
I really love my rebar. I'm uploading a stupid little video to test recording in fraps, but the video is of me almost losing my rebar! I was royally freaking out!

Get higher level.

Also, use your upgraded weapons for special zombies.

The Fallout 3 and New Vegas repair system was much better. Weapons were not so quick to break, the game set a good balance between using said weapon and having to repair it. I've played plenty of games where weapons need to be repaired, Dead Island: Riptide and this game has the some of the fastest decaying weapons, it's asinine.

I remember in Dead Island everyone running around with modded Zed's Demise.
Like it was BiS gear. XD

Dominant Strategy.

Save your upgraded weapons for hard enemies and waste your trash ones on whatever. Don't just upgrade a weapon and start smacking away on everything you see.

People seem to think this game is either:

DayZ: "Why are weapons not like real life?"

or

Dead Rising: "Why dont I have a Katana that can kill 500 zombies?"

The answer is, this is Dying Light.

You are a Runner, not a Barbarian.

Lets all agree that they need an NPC that is built around repair, build, and special supply mechanics...call him "The Scrounge." He appears only at night, is blind from partical infection, and has a special gift to survive and scavange.

There you go Techland, I even gave you a backstory. Let's get this done.

No.

People need to just accept that this isnt Dead Island 3 and move on.

The only issue I have is that STILL after 2 games they still want me to throw my rare ass weapons at enemies and risk them bugging through the ground.
Memnoch Jan 28, 2015 @ 3:46am
I only throw junk weapons, never the good ones. I haven't tried targetting gas bottles in Dying Light yet though but that is what I would do.
