Edit; I also pref the vibe on dl1.
2...eh, it's got merits, but I can't connect with any of the NPCs or the main, Aiden. Zombies aren't scary anymore because of UV hotspots that you can run to at night. Volatiles cease to be scary, unless you meet them indoors. And I don't like the weapons at all. The buildings are awesome to scale, though. But I find the PKs to be a joke and I don't respect them at all. Just my opinion.
Not sure what you mean, both games have open worlds. However, this should not be a priority for choosing whether to play DL 1 or DL 2. You would pay more for bigger, longer, more boring game. There are countless videos on Youtube comparing both games and if you don't find a soyboy who thinks playing objectively worse game is a good thing because... something, then every video tells the same thing: Dying Light > Dying Light 2
noob
If you put both games side-by-side without labelling them in their own columns and listed their gameplay features, good and bad, to someone who doesn't know anything about either then I wouldn't be surprised if 99% will say Dying Light 1 not only appears to be the better game but would probably be mistaken for a sequel because of how much more refined it presents itself.
Something, somewhere really went sideways during the development of the sequel where they decided it was more important to blend in MMO elements and punish players until they grind out basic QoL features than giving players a game which tries to build off the success of what made DL1 so successful.
That's why I have basically all the DLC and picked up the rest with the 10th anniversary bundle because this game was and still is more than worth it and there's a much, much higher chance that I'll replay DL1 with mods before I even try to give DL2 another chance.
It makes me irrationally mad that DL2 is the way it is even all the work they've done to reverse course on their initial decisions.
just if you get dl1 make sure you get the following with it playing it back to back with the base game is the best way to experience it
I did spend a lot more time playing DL1 than DL2 though.
Its a DLC for DL1. Really fun and a must have for any DL fan.
