Only 2 decent thrown weapons?
My fabulous tomahawks and throwing stars (white, green, or blue all do the same) do like 1k dmg but all the knives and axes do a piddly 100 or 200 dmg.

This doesn't seem right. Maybe it's messed up?

I chuck a couple tomahawks or stars at big ugly heads and they go down nicely compared to any other kind of attack where the survivors always die.

thrown weapons are garbo period :/ sadly.

That is rather odd. Normally, you will find that the Throwing Weapons will all go up in damage about the same time.

What might be happening is that you just hit a level, where the first kind of Throwing Weapon is due to appear the most.

So, let's say that you just started getting Fabulous level items, but first in the list for Throwing Weapons that are Fabulous Level (or a similar equivalent moniker), are Tomahawks and Throwing Stars. Then until you either open a higher difficulty chest (which may help or not), or level up one more level in Survivor Level (which should definitely help the loot availability), you won't get the Fabulous Level Knives and so on.

If you aren't Survivor Level 25 yet (max level), I'd check what happens with the next set of Knives and Throwing Axes you get when you loot them on Survivor Level Up.

Now, we are talking Throwing Axes, not even sure there are Throwing Knives in existence, don't recall any.

(Sometimes you will find in an old character, that you continued with, or from old events, older looted items, which may be even Throwing Axes, which will not obey the more modern rules from patches or new events. These will defy acting correctly. What I would do is use those lousy ones first until I empty that stack completely and then see if the new ones do the same. Sometimes between patches they will actually stack, but then be corrected later or not. Has happened to me about 2 years ago)

It is also perhaps possible that only certain types of Throwing Weapons get the Skill bonuses that apply. However, I know they can also apply to Throwing Axes.

Also, hitting enemies in the Head, usually is pretty close to a one shot kill.

Also, if you are using self crafted Throwing Weapons, such as Exploding Throwing Stars, I believe THEY DO NOT GET ANY BONUSES other than the Crafted Effect.

It is also possible that maybe you were given these items , those will often react differently than those you actually loot from the chests or corpses.

Lastly, any event in place, may have rules that influence damage of certain weapons, but those are normally listed in the actual event notes or blurb for it.

Also, you are right about the Color of a Throwing Weapon, like a Throwing Star, it doesn't matter really. All that matters, should be the damage listed on the item. In general, in the past, the Fabulous ones all hit like a truck often in the 900-1100 damage range I think, but most before then are considerably less good. But that was the status about a year ago. I have not played enough at high Survivor Level recently, started new campaign saves on a new computer. Thus I can't be sure of the current situation completely.

TIP also don't forget like I often do, to hold down that attack key and mark the three targets once you get that higher skilled perk, that way each throwing weapon hits for 3 hits each -- check the skill video for the perk to view what I mean. Each skill in Dying Light game actually has a miniature Video showing what you get in action with the skill you are about to choose. Best thing in the world. Another game that does the same is the original version of Kingdoms of Alamur. Love that feature, even viewable in both games before you purchase the skill.

Oh, what you can do for a possibly "bugged stack". Is dump all those into the Stash inventory, and then go looting and keep the ones you loot into player's inventory separate from the Stashed ones. If the playable inventory hits with high damage, then you know the ones in the stashed inventory are bugged or old variants. You can try dropping the ones you got and staying real near and wasting away the old variants if near the Tower etc, but that's iffy. Or sell off the bugged ones, but otherwise, unless the stacks are full, they will intermix, and they always intermix into the old stack first, no matter where you point, so then the result is they imitate I believe the original version in that stack.

If you drop the new ones close to the the Merchant, and don't move far away, you should be able to pick up the new ones after selling the bug ones, but make sure you don't have both in inventory, especially if the bugged ones stack is under 99. (I'd suggest a quick test run of this with crap items, a drop and sell something else run, to see if it works for you. And do this single-player, don't do this co-op, or who knows what will happen. Basically, Co-Op can mess up things sometimes, also, because of the host's level -- which may override your own level. KEEP THIS IN MIND ABOUT CO-OP.)

So, the original older bugged ones will contaminate anything added to it, all the way up to 99, at the very least. So you need to sell the whole stack of bugged, or drop or use them all, in order to protect the new ones.

Hope that helps.

I realize this is long three posts, but at least you know all I got to help now. Good luck.

Thx DedZedNub! Lots of useful info. - I have numerous stacks of fabulous tomahawks but that's because each stack has different skins so they don't combine together.

There are military throwing knives - which thus far suck for dmg for me. Maybe when I go up some more Legendary lvls the fabulous ones will appear with the higher dmg (1000 instead of 100).

Thus far most stars, axes, and military knives do piddly 100 dmg each so I end up dropping them on the ground and picking up sacrificial swords and Egyptian khopeshes to sell for $1k a pop. All bad guys seem to carry either of those two, some junk throwing knives, or military/police rifles.

I saw videos and read about how people change to nightmare mode and farm Stuffed Turtle to get the 400 million (or whatever ridiculous number) points to max Legendary skill. I'm just taking my time playing around exploring everything and doing all side missions -including whenever random blue events happen. It's sloooow going getting just one Legendary level but I don't mind.

I figure that when I level up the monsters will scale too. I just hope at some point (maybe max Legendary lvl 25?) that the knives and axes won't be just trash to drop on the ground.

What sucks now is picking hard/very hard chests and finding junk throwing weapons, green weapons that are nowhere near appropriate for the scaled enemies, or coffee. Shopkeepers seem to carry better weapons than any of the loot caches anyhow.
