It clearly warned you about this.
(when I say "I read that the final missions must be completed in singleplayer only" I mean that I looked up the issue online before coming here and there were a few responses that claimed that)
Regardless, it makes no sense why the game, THE ENTIRE GAME, is closed off to single-player only. I would understand if I tried to start the last mission with them and the game said "nope, sorry" but that's not the case.
*** We still have side missions left over that we were working on ***
Just yesterday we were working on a few with no issue. We quit out after completing one with plans to complete some others today. I fired up the game and when I tried to invite them, the game was locked to single player only.
1. You're in the middle of a storyline quest.
2. You are at the mission where you have to confront Rais at his tower - there's a bug that disables multiplayer until you complete the game, no matter if you have entered the tower or not. When you then complete the mission (last mission in the game), you can return to completing the last of your side-quests and play multiplayer again.
