I believe not. The hardest you can get is hard mode and new game plus.

You go to your saved games, select your save with finished game, press F for details ->> it is there, start the new game plus and hard diff.
Enjoy

what will you do once the following is released ?
Keep playing on NG+ ?

People told me you can't go back to normal difficulty. is it true ?

You can change the difficulty at any time. But if you do, you won't get the reward for hard.
And with the update you will get new diff = nightmare.

I would like to find the real answer to my question.

Once you choose to start NG+, you can't revert back to the base save; that's gone.

That is true. You can change the diff, but you cannot go back to normal game(not talking about difficulty) once you choose new game + you cannot go back to not new game plus.

"not talking about difficulty"

???

Isn't it :

- New game +

??

NO, if you have checked it in you own menu:

game modes:
noraml
new game plus(after beating the main story on normal)

difficulties:
normal
hard

any configuration of above two categories will be your game

Good question. You can back up your saves and experiment.

Is it possible to copy (duplicate) your save game, so you leave your (finished) normal game in one slot and you start the new game plus in the other slot? Has anyone tried something like this?

Ok, I have figured it out. Here is what you need to do in order to duplicate your save:

1) Start a new game (Play campaign > New Game)
2) After first checkpoint - close the game
3) Go to the save file location ({...}\Steam\userdata\{...}\239140\remote\out\save)
4) Copy your 100% save file (in my case: save_coop_0.sav)
5) Overwrite the save file created in step 2 (in my case: save_coop_1.sav)
6) Launch the game - now you can start the NG+ from the other save slot
