So what's with this game's PvP?
I have just gotten into pvp last night as a Nighthunter and it seemed rather cool! I was blown away by the depth of the skills and how unique it was as a gamemode. Rewards be damned, it was too interesting to not play.

...HOWEVER. I have seen on multiple occasions while invading people that a multitude of things can happen that have negatively impacted my experience.
- Cheaters (Looking at you, Dioskot50. Context: Invincibility & destroying all nests when one is destroyed)
- Horrible regional matchmaking (Game lets me connect to players from ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ASIA, I was getting hit by things when I was quite literally not even within arm's length of a swing, then I see "XXX sliced Setuaro". L i e s.)
- Aborted/Player leaves instantly (The game defaults invasions to be on, which could be fun if it only forced first timers together for a few rounds but sadly skill/rank based matchmaking is basically non-existant, huge oversight)
- Questionable balancing (Getting 1-shot by an Oar for example could be seen as peak comedy. For me it was peak pain. Yes I made a mistake but how the hell is an Oar one-shotting me?)

All in all, something that started off as fun as very quickly declined into "what is this garbage?" I'm convinced that the pvp is only fun with friends at this point. I've had a lot of matches, I'm up to Bolter and how many of those matches was fun? One. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥... ONE match. And that was the one I had against a new player when I did my first invasion, we were both stumbling around but having a laugh at what's happening and that's the kind of experience we need to have all the time. Not these hyper-competitive cross-region hacks that think it's fun to just hunt the hunter instead of destroying nests. If you're gonna be annoying to play against, at least do us all a favour and be quick about it.

I have attempted going into pvp as a Survivor and it's just not enjoyable. I'm instantly pitted against someone who's got 3 different kinds of spit and most of the important upgrades. If you're just starting out, that's quite literally impossible to beat as you can't identify each of the spits that quickly. What's more is that the balancing between light and dark in this game is absolutely w i l d. If I think about turning up my brightness to see anything at all in the dark, I might aswell burn my eyes myself when using the UV light. I have to constantly squint and it's overall very overwhelming if this is the kind of first game you have.

If you end up in a match where people are at equal levels and progression. It's mediocre at best. If you come into one where even only one player is overleveled for the other, One will roflstomp the other and there's no enjoyment or sense of accomplishment to be had.

Yes, some of the points I'm bringing up is a matter of skill but majority is a matter of the game's matchmaking being the literal worst garbage I've ever seen. I'd prefer taking close-quarters spawns if it means getting better matchmaking.

Of course you'll probably think "So don't play pvp lol", and you're right! That's a great idea! Here's the problem... this pvp is pretty much one-of-a-kind, which makes it all the harder to leave it behind. If things go well, it's addicting beyond measure, if things don't it's infuriating beyond measure. There is no balance and fair play is dead, hope is lost and fun is a myth but by god it's addicting.

Sad part is that I don't really have any friends to play pvp with and just have fun with as DL is a pretty dead game in the grand scheme of things. Fun to go back to once in a while but not nearly enough people keep playing it long term with the devs barely even glancing at it.

It probably comes down to people playing no ? I mean its not even in the top 100 played so you either take what you get or you would probably wait hours for a match

I mean dying ligth is a story game after all and is kinda normal that in a game with more than 5 years of its taking off could have cheaters but i think that is a really good gamemode and of course a really good game, its stunning to see how deep dying ligth can sometimes be when you realices quests and you can discover more about the feelings of people during a zombie apocalipse.Simplely amazing how this game change my hole point of view of my own life and how can its deepness make me sad.A masterpiece not really able to understand for everyone.I wanna apreciate your comment and i know that you are highly likely to have the same point as me.Nonetheless, I also wanna say that PVP could sometimes be boring because I have played with a lot of cheaters and I know that your comments have all the sense, playing with someone that doesnt respect the game is the main problem of why PVP has became a forgotten gamemode or just an anoying one.

Yeah, the game's story is fantastic and it holds so much more emotion half the other story-driven games in this day and age, I wish it was more popular again and Techland continued support for it. Best I can do is hope that they continue to improve DL2 in positive ways until that day comes so that I may consider buying it.
Regardless, I'm really enjoying the game again lately and I have no intention of stopping playing it just because the PvP is wack, especially when I got atleast one friend to hang with in it.

I loved playing the PvP back when I played on PS4. Both sides are interesting, however multiple survivors will definitely destroy a Nighthunter pretty well without extreme caution. Conversely a Nighthunter will destroy a solo player pretty easily. So participating is kind of dependent on rng for who you actually get to play against. When I played in the past my first survivor sessions ended with me being terrified of the opponent and getting wrecked because of my hesitation. But hours later when I just started actually running around and being unpredictable with the roll skill I ended up doing well.

In my experience its kind of hard to tell exactly what a survivor player is doing since being the zombie is the only time you'll get to see what the moves look like from an outside perspective unless you do co-op. That and the highlighted survivor kind of distorts their animations.

As for the Oar insta-kill could the damage have been buffed via legend levels? Otherwise that sounds completely ridiculous.

Lastly this kind of PvP is kind of similar to what Dark Souls games do, but those games don't have the Invading PvP character playing as a different and interesting entity with unique abilities. But just look online and see similar complaints about PvP in those games as well.

Also kind of off topic but how rampant is the cheating? And can my computer be hacked when playing against others?

Myeah, I was also terrified asf against the nighthunter but I just didn't have anything to do against him, how people turn to me in an instant with their UV is beyond me.

In regards to the hacking, it's not too prevalent, so long as you connect to VAC protected servers but your PC is very unlikely to be hacked by some salty player. When it comes to hacking a PC, usually something needs to happen on your side that installs malware or tells vital info to the hacker (my brother once got tricked into giving some info on his PC to someone he co-oped with. Dude was petty and hacked his PC for accidentally killing his friend on Hurtworld, weird ♥♥♥♥ and very manipulative)

So long as you don't follow anyone's instructions on your PC, you'll be fine.
The hacking/cheating mostly extends to the game itself with health, damage, ammo, etc
