Agreed. What really ruins the second game for me is the story. The gameplay mechanics of 1 are better than 2, in my opinion however Techland has been improving the 2's mechanics as well.

However the entire selling point of Dying Light 2 was the story, and I'll take the first game's story over it's sequel any day. So what really does Dying Light 2 have that it's predecessor didn't.

Lets see here:

1. Choices, it has many choices. But again with a horrible story these choices are made less impactful. Yet even the Following has choices as a mechanic in the finale. So Dying Light 1 has this too.
3. Glider, advanced form of the mario pizza suit easter egg from DL1.
4. Air Vents.
5. Changed Grappling Hook.
6. Immunity timer.
7. Night Vision has to be grinding before even the basic recipe is unlocked in midgame.
8. Howler's, grown up version of Screamer kid zombie.
9. Elemental Zombies.
10. Charger's.

So out of the above 10, Dying Light 2 only added Air Vents, terrible Immunity mechanic, Elemental zombies (very annoying), Charger's with the most narrow weakspot (try sniping from above and seeing the arrow miss it's hitbox), changed physics on the glider and grappling hook, and finally more grind.

That's 6 changes, not all of these are good changes either. The best one's are the air vent and potentially the grappling hook.

Overall there isn't much mechanically in Dying Light 2's favor other than graphics, which clashes with the original's artstyle.

So yeah, I found the sequel disappointing. Hopefully the dlc will take the story in a good direction otherwise I'll probably avoid one of my favorite franchises like the plague.

The story is boring, the city is unrealistic and the atmosphere is nothing compare to DL1 Harran
Zero interesting characters, maybe Hakon
Well I liked the music in DL2 aswell as in DL1 (epsecially Metric - Help I'm Alive)
Idk I just don't feel like I want to spend time in that game, it has no soul, I tried 3 times
Though they actually improved gameplay atleast, it's much better than on a lauch MUCH BETTER!

I liked Hakon, Aitor, Jack Matt, and the Colonel. When considering the length of Dying Light 2's story and how many characters there actually are, this is abysmal. There should be many more memorable and likable characters, granted my personal preferences for what makes a likable character are different than many others however based upon the online discourse these are the only few I've seen agreed to as good or interesting.

Zombies are more reactive and capable of turning on a dime in Dying Light 2, ironically this make them seem less real and more gamey. They shoulld be slow and stupid falling off of rooftops.
The music in Dying Light 2 isn't as memorable as Dying Light 1. Sure the dynamic/momentum based soundtrack is interesting, but to me it can't beat the curated yet thematically energetic and horror of the first. I remember songs like "In the Cage", "Strife", "Horizon", "Runaway", "Destination", and the "On Edge of Light" from the Following DLC. All of these make want to be and feel fast. I'm pretty sure that I understand what the composer was trying to convey with the music.

In Dying Light 2 this list is limited to Empowering Yourself. A single song, which doesn't grip me the same as the soundtrack of Dying Light 1. Also for most of my playthroughs of the soundtrack never came up, so when I listened to the songs Youtube I only recognized 1 of them.

Your soul comment is how I feel about alot of entertainment releases lately whether it be film, or video games. I've noticed that with these "souless" games I'll often play them multiple times to make sure that I don't like them, I almost have to prove to myself that I'm not missing something before I critically analyze why I don't a game. I still am playing Dying Light 2, just moved my character to new game plus, but still struggle to enjoy it with the lackluster story, map, tanky enemies, grindy mechanics, and gameplay updates.

The game won't redeem itself, in my eyes, until it gets a better map and story. Both of which will likely only come from a DLC not related to the city of Villedor. Then the grind needs to be reduced, as a gesture to show that the game respects its players' time.

I did not play a single bit the DL2....
Im still thinking about it but its like a no go...is like i dont wanna waste my time on a game that will end up a "One time play".
100% DL 1 is and will still one of my go for when bored.
