Dying Light

Daytime night-walkers with viral AI.
I've only seen this happen in the following, but it seems that biters are turning into night-walkers in broad daylight, but then behaving as virals. And there seems to be a pattern where once one biter changes, a bunch start changing everywhere (kind of like normal night-walkers at night, when you are being chased)

youtube video of it happening

it's completely lore breaking, and just annoying. These mutated biters cry and beg for their lives sometimes, like virals, and are less aggressive than night walkers (And act more human). Higher difficulty makes them more common.

Based on the patterns in which they appear, and how it breaks the lore, this appears to be a bug or a big oversight.

(I've also noticed that some military biters will do this too, except it's only in certain locations, and they DO NOT behave as virals, they have their own sound affects and AI which are closer to night walkers. This isn't lore breaking, and is just from the exposure to that blue mist I'm assuming. (THIS IS NOT THE PROBLEM)

But if it's not a bug, and just a horrible feature. It would be simple to fix this, by just making them mutate into weak versions of night walkers, instead of virals. That would make a lot more sense.

Also, a lot of people are confused about what virals/night walkers are:

Virals:
- Freshly turned humans, still retain human characteristics.
- As fast as player, good climbers.
- Relatively aggressive
- Sometimes dodge backwards and circle player.
- When hit in the face can become conscious as a human for a few moments, and plead/cry for mercy.

Night Walkers:
- Biters that mutate during the absence of UV Light (During night time) Usually when aggravated.
- The mutation makes them uglier, they get more cuts on their skin and stuff.
- Faster than player, good climbers
- extremely aggressive
- Do not dodge backwards, but will duck from attacks.
- Mildly sensitive to UV light (Will shield face from UV)

So whats the problem ?

It's not only not a problem, it doesn't really happen non stop like he claims.

Seems like it's only an occurrence in the Following. Doesn't occur in the main campaign as far as I've seen. Perhaps it is a bug or an oversight. Not sure if there's anything in the Following that explains that kind of behavior though, so I could be wrong.

The problem is that they are night-walkers with viral AI...

How is it not a problem?

Honestly the one thing that bugged me about the Following was the virals. Two bullets in a DLC that's supposed to be "more focused on guns" and you're swarmed by like, 6 of them. But not just running at you or crawling out of the sewer, they instead spawn like, 30 ft away from you :/
Having even more of that begaviour just seems awful.

I have the military personel turn into night-walkers occasionally, but never what you've described. Try verifying your game cache first, that's the most obvious thing to try.

Jesus Christ people it's not a bug, it's an intended behavior change to walkers in the following.

Source? Do you not understand that virals are fresh zombies, that's why they cry and beg for their lives? And that night walkers are THE OPPOSITE?

Who calls them night walkers?

I do, the wiki does, everyone I know does. Night-walkers are just mutated biters, I explained what they were. The issue is that night-walkers are appearing in daytime and using viral AI. (virals are the freshly turned zombies that sometimes plead for their lives, and run fast)

Well when Kaan asks you to retrieve a car, most players leave this certain exit and when you walk into a horde of zombies (near the exit) you hear Krane say "What the" and then a bunch of biters turn into night walkers. From my experience most biters turn when theres a large zombie around. (a larger model of a regular biter that hits you backward)

I only asked because it sounds like a stupid name for something that doesn't walk

They walk, lol. When they aren't chasing anyone, they kind of hunch over and walk around like volatiles :P
