Can't change difficulty back
I've searched all over Google for this
So I have been playing a bit. Lvs Survivor 18, Runner 20 on the verge of 21 and fighting 16
And I am good with guns and the bow. I use expcaliber primarily for that launch and the handgun primarily for ranged because there's no arc and it's easier to aim, in my opinion.
But I was playing with a friend who has his game on hard and there's a significant difference in the shops. you can buy bullets in every shop on Nightmare.
So I set my game from hard to nightmare
Well I just got done being chased down by 10-25 runners, each one able to 4 shot me and no way of running because I just quite haven't gotten that final running perk yet, I'm out of firecrackrs and can't reload and just my luck, no car bombs to grab their attention away from me either.
So I exit and what fo I find in the advanced options? No way to set the game back to hard mode. I don't want my main file to be on nightmare because for some reason almost all the zombies are runners! Please, I'm willing to even alter save files for this. I just don't want to get killed in under 2 seconds when I try to play the game!

I found the problem
Seems to be a glitdh with the Bozak horde. When it's selected in your main quest, you can't change difficulties. The fix I found was to set the main mission to a QZ (Quarentine Zone) and enter it then quit and change it from the advanced settings there. It's a bit out of the way and tedious but now I don't have an entire horde's worth of runners after me. Hope this bit helps.
tried setting my game to a quest instead of Quantertine zone (Which is what it was already at) Still didn't work :(

2 things:
Try entering the QZ and quitting from inside it,
Or set it to a new QZ and entering that one instead of the other.

Hello,

you need to set tracked quest to any non-dlc quest for example Stuffed Turtle or any other non-dlc Quarantine Zone. Then you need to quit the game. After that you will able to change difficulty Play -> Advanced -> Play on Normal/Hard.

This worked for me. I went inside the Stuffed Turtle Market, quit and then I was able to change it (PS4). Thanks a lot you guys, this was annoying. I hope they patch this.

Changing quarantine zone, going inside the new one and then quitting to main menu fixed the problem, thanks !

This situation doesn't need " patching ". It can be a bit confusing at first, but it's just a matter of learning how the process works. I've never had an issue with it.

Had the same issue + i had no normal mission left, only dlc misson

in this situation i needed to delete the dlcs manually and then i was able to change back to normal

The situation definitely needs patching. Inability to switch difficulty because your selected quest is a DLC Quarantine Zone is absurd.

Regardless of which quest is currently selected, you need only to change the difficulty when you launch the game - before you start the run or exit the game, do so , then continue.
Yes, I need to change the difficulty when I launch the game before I start. And I cannot do it, if any of the DLC quests is selected. That is what OP was complaining about, and that is what I said.

Funny thing that you didn't understand that back in 2017 and still don't understand in 2019.

Yeah...I've got pills for that, but their effectiveness is questionable.
