Dying Light
[VAC] Mod Support Status & Information Thread
(Updated 21.february)

Official Statements (Valve):

Valve has responded with a pinned Thread regarding the situation:
Valve eredeti hozzászólása:
Since the release of The Following for Dying Light we have noticed a number of users that received a VAC ban were unaware that VAC had been enabled. Due to unclear messaging we have decided to remove these VAC bans and are working with Techland to include VAC protected messaging.
ChadW eredeti hozzászólása:
You will not receive a VAC ban unless you are in a multiplayer session that stated it was VAC secured when you joined and offline/single player sessions are not VAC secured. We are working with Techland to get clear messaging included into the game.

If you have questions about mods and the Workshop please contact Techland.
Max eredeti hozzászólása:
If VAC is turned off, a ban is impossible. Just make sure to completely disable anything that may cause a ban prior to joining a VAC-secured game.

The pinned Thread can be found here:

Official Statements (Techland):
Still no official Statement yet.

VAC/Mod Support Status:
(Updated 21.february)

All Dying Light VAC Bans have been lifted on 16.february, any Ban received from now on will be treated as regular VAC Ban and thus be permanent!

Third-party (Trainer, CE, SweetFX, Reshade etc.) = :LightRedCube: (VAC Ban Risk: High)
Triggers Ban when in a VAC protected Lobby, offline singleplayer & non VAC secure Lobby should be safe according to valve, no confirmation to be safe by techland yet

Officially Supported "Data3.pak" Mods = :YellowCube: (VAC Ban Risk: Medium)
May trigger Ban when in a VAC protected Lobby, offline singleplayer & non VAC secure Lobby should be safe according to valve

Original Items received from Players online = :GreenCube: (VAC Ban Risk: None)
According to valve it does not trigger a VAC ban for the receiving Player, even if the Giver has acquired it illegitimately, however using modifications/third party tools to spawn/duplicate/cheat items yourself will certainly trigger a Ban in a VAC protected Lobby

Modded Savegame = :YellowCube: (VAC Ban Risk: Unknown)
It is not known if a savegame that has been saved while using a Trainer could trigger a Ban and it is also not known if modifications done to the savefile directly (e.g hex editing) could trigger one either

Steam Workshop = :YellowCube: (VAC Ban Risk: Unknown)
Workshop & Custom Game Launch Option have been re-enabled on 18.february, it is assumed that VAC is disabled when playing a custom map via the "custom game" launch option, VAC Status when playing a custom map via the normal game is unknown, no official Statements by Valve nor Techland yet

Mod Support Status = :YellowCube: use only with great caution!
Offline singleplayer & non VAC secure Lobby should be safe according to valve but no confirmation by Techland whatsoever.

The Facts:

As many of you know, Dying Light is in an alarming Situation regarding the recently implemented Valve-Anti-Cheat System (VAC)

VAC was supposed to start operating on Launch of the DLC "The Following" (9.February).

However an official Announcement from 2.February confirmed that VAC was indeed already enabled since 29.January.

There have been numerous Reports of unjustified VAC-Bans.

With People claiming to be banned for various Modifications including the officially supported "data3.pak" Method.

Most of those Bans date back before the release of "The Following" and after the VAC activation on 29.January.

Since the Release of "The Following" on 9.february, theres a new In-Game Option that allows Players to "enable/disable" VAC for their Lobby.

The Developer Techland has shut down the official Workshop and Custom Game Launch Option until further notice. It has been re-enabled in an update from 18.february.

Valve has now responded with an official statement, all VAC Bans received in Dying Light have been lifted on 16.february.

There are still no official Statements from Techland yet.

The Worries:

It is suspected that official Mod-Support has been compromised with the Risk of a VAC Ban due to compatibility issues with the new Anti-Cheat System.

Valve did their best to share everything they know, but there are still alot of questions that only a Developer can confirm for sure, especially regarding mod support.

Even Valve themself recommend to ask Techland in regard of modifications:
ChadW eredeti hozzászólása:
If you have questions about mods and the Workshop please contact Techland.

But since we still have no official Information from Techland directly, many concerns are left unanswered.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The most urgent Concern for Content Creators & Mod User are:

#1 What exact Modifications get People banned?

#2 Under what circumstances do VAC Bans trigger (Gamemode/Options etc.)?

#3 Does the ingame VAC Option really disable VAC Detection completely?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is almost impossible to find out this informations ourself (see the tremendous work put in this thread by the community) because it is not known how exactly VAC operates in this Title.

Finding it out by Trial and Error is not an Option due to the high Risk of getting VAC banned.

And neither should a customer have to attempt such things just to gather information that a responsible developer should share out of free will in the first place.

The Discussion:

Please Note, that this Thread is for Informative Purpose on an urgent subject only, not a place to fight over Mods, Hacks and Anti-cheat in general.

I think i speak for the Majority of Mod creators and User, when i say we endorse the implementation of Anti-Cheat for competitive and/or secured online gamemodes.

Aslong it does not interfere with the official Mod support for singleplayer/closed Lobby, that puts legitimate content creators and User at Risk of a VAC Ban.

Remember, every Cheat is a modification but not every Modification is a Cheat. Theres a lot of cool stuff from the DL mod community that deserves appreciation not punishment.

Some Puerto Rican Guy got me VAC banned.
I was playing the game with mods after I beat the game just to mess around on fun I usly keep zombie mode to never I used cheat engine for infinite grable and no weapon break because it was annoying farming for golden weapons and orange weapons, I usly have my game open for my friends because we would just mess around a swig around like Spider-Man and try tricks, also had a mod for easy lock picking and infinite ammo and crafting stuff and my friend that lives near me has a golden weapon mod, I was playing the game between 29th January 2016 and 9th February 2016, I played around 4th February then saw a forum about vac bans then I learn that they added vac to game, so I stop playing the and uninstalled the game, worried I would get vac. Then on the 7th of February I got vac banned. I feel I got unfair vac ban because they did not say they add vac to the game publicly! Now I think if I should try to get a refund for the game and dlc, and never buy a product from techland again because of this mess! Good thing I warned my friend so he did not get a vac ban because of mods. I try to send a ticket to them but they said contact steam/ valve, now I keep getting auto messages from steam support, then I tried to contact steam valve workers emails, like Gabe Newell, no reply yet, then tried to contact famous youtubers to try to get them to do a video on it like AlphaOmegaSin a gaming channel on YouTube and some twitch streamers. I feel but techland did is illegal and them thinking they can get away from it because there from Poland is bs. I am tempted to try to get them ddos and hacked, and sued for ♥♥♥♥ they trying to pull! So if anyone reads this plz do a YouTube video about this ♥♥♥♥!m

P.s. May add more latter!

1 I have been vac banned before the release
2 No
3 Singleplayer (multiplayer with my friends only [They had the same mod I had])

5 Mutations mod from nexus http://www.nexusmods.com/dyinglight/mods/145/? (lol I love using my super powers against zombies :P)
Techland has dropped the ball hardcore, 3 work days have gone by and there has been absolutely zero communication from them about this. If they're trying to shoot themselves in the foot than they've scored a critical success.

The Situation is growing more and more scary, the more we find out.
Are you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ kidding me?
Well, there are numerous confirmed VAC Bans and a lot of witness reports that lead to the conclusion that officially supported "data3.pak" Mods may trigger a Ban.

If this turns out to be true, then all legitimate Mod User that played the Game after 29.January have a high risk of getting banned.

If this doesnt sound scary (atleast in the world of videogames), then i dont know what else would.

It's nothing short of a PR nightmare. I'm honestly surprised there aren't any gaming news sites talking about this so far.

It does not help that folks are getting combative in some threads. Quite a few have claimed single player mode then admitted that they also did MP with friends. Then the stream of cheater, cheater pants on fire posts start. It then makes having a discussion about the fuzziness around what is an 'approved' mod and the silent VAC implementation difficult.

Thanks for your detailed report, you are part of the statistics now. Sad to see another one banned.

Hi, thanks for your Report!

Was the Mutation Mod the only one you used?

It is very important that you answer honestly, because if this is true, then this may be the first confirmed data3.pak Ban!

Thanks in advance and sorry for your Ban.

I agree, the complete lack of any official information gives me bad vibes.

Lets hope they are working hard on a plan B behind the scenes to achieve the best possible outcome for everyone involved...

Yeah, i dont get it why People argue over anything just for the thrill of it. In the End we are all in the same Boat as a consumer.

For my Statistics, i try to cherry-pick the most plausible Ban Reports and when in doubt, stick to the facts.

I also used the quick use and watch mod, which doesn't affect my gameplay at all basically, it just helps me quickly switch thourgh my equipment by keybinding it to numbers
Here's the CEO of Techland. Just give him your thoughts, all customers who are wronged by the Techland VAC policy. https://www.linkedin.com/in/marek-sob%25C3%25B3l-57027a54 .

Damn, those are all officially supported data3.pak mods. I used a very similar watch mod and made some edits to the same file myself.

May i ask one last question: Did you ever use the "Dying Light Manager" from nexus to install mods? ( http://www.nexusmods.com/dyinglight/mods/18/ )

Or did you install it manually with the normal data3.pak method?

Thanks again for your contribution.
