The Following: Volatile Nests
How to destroy Volatile Nests on Following? Almost on the beginning you get a map with Volatile nests to destroy. There was also warning that it's not suggested to go on day there because Volatiles are camping there. But now i managed to get there on night but tried to destroy it without luck.

I believe you have to kill the volatiles that seem stuck in a pile of gore in the ground, then you blow the place up (Not sure about the blowing up. I was in co-op, during the day, and we invaded the nest. I started killing, after a while my partner said for me to run, then I take an insta kill, and when I respawn the tunnel is blocked)

On its nest there are 3 Queen? volatiles half fused to the ground...Kill'em to exterminate the nest.

Better do it during the day with flares. You need to kill all the pre-volatiles' (the guys in the ground). Mask yourself with a corpse, kill a few volatiles, renew your camouflage and so on.

Hm, weird... I have succesfully killed many of those volatiles on the day now in nest, but still can't understand what you guys meaned "guys in the ground".. Only "weird" things what i have seen is big pile of bodies.. Nothing else.

There are some "volatiles" in the parts of the caves that are lit up with blood and gore - and generally red color/light all around them.
They are kinda "stuck" half-way through the ground. You only see the top part of them.
They don't do a thing to you, when you go near them, and they don't have the "view cone" on the mini-map either.
They make a weird noise as well, so you know when you're near one.

Kill those. Just throw flares around and you can walk right in, with no troubles at all.

I just killed 3 of the ones stuck in the ground on the first volatile nest mission during the day, but its not coming up as completed. ?

I killed on two different places all which i found (on one place there was 4..) and it became complete. On that first place where i was and where i didn't find these things (why i started this thread) i think is bugged or something..

I still don't really get how to do this easily. I kill the volatiles in the floor and use them to camo but there are so many damn normal volatiles wandering around in some of the nests that they flip out for no apparent reason and kill me in seconds no matter what I do. I would think maybe I should just try and kill off the volatiles, but there are like 20 of them in some rooms just wandering around constantly spawning. Also I can never find bombs--do all the volatile nests have bombs? I did manage to clear one where I did find a bomb, though a volatile spotted me for no apparent reason (while camo'd) and jumped on me and killed me just as the bomb went off, and it still credited me with clearing the nest.

I'm just wondering if I should just keep doing other stuff and come back and do this later when I can one-shot volatiles, if there ever is a time when you can do that. Right now if I'm camo'd I can kill one, but if there's like 20 around me and they keep spawning like in some of the nests that's impossible and pointless.

I tried to do this. Everywhere I look, people are saying Volatiles have about 2500 health. I've got a shotgun that does 2500 damage and I shot one, three times and it didn't die, then ripped me to bits.

Also, I've just been doing the search Adam's apartment mission and it seems to be bugged with no further clues to be found, but isn't showing as completed. Scanning finds nothing. Oh, and at night, despite being in a sealed apartment, volatiles manage to get through the walls :S

I have a bunch of katanas with Angel Sword that do close to 2600 damage I believe, and it still takes around 3-4 swings on regular volatiles that are near a flare.

When Following came they changed littlebit zombies health. Now it's scaling regarding to your level. Normally Volatile has 2500 health or something but after update its scale within your level so it can be more now (if i understanded that thing rgiht).

But i have now managed to destroy Volatile nests. You don't need any bombs etc.. Just example slices those grounded Volatiles ugly ♥♥♥♥ things.

I finally managed to deal with the "Down the Rabbit Hole" nest, which is one of the worse ones because there literally are like 10 volatiles wandering around, and they keep spawning. I think it's the ones stuck in the ground that let them keep spawning, because you'll see the new volatiles crawl through a hole in the floor near them. I couldn't manage to kill the floor volatiles quickly enough (took me a while to find them all) so instead I killed them when I could while constantly refreshing camo. Mainly I just tried to kill all the normal volatiles, by killing them with a few melee hits from camo. If several of them rushed me I'd whip out my shotgun and dispatch them. New ones would spawn in but not quickly enough to overwhelm me.

I think that is really all you can do, just get a good shotgun and a good melee weapon and kill the volatiles ASAP from camo. My shotgun does like 600 damage which seems enough to deal with volatiles.

(I found another one in a military box that did 900 later on but some enemy guys kept throwing grenades around it so I went to deal with them, and when I came back the damn shotgun had disappeared!)

So I've done a few more of these, and now I have a way better idea of how to do them. I was really confused when the game threw these nest takedown missions at the beginning of the Following.

Basically you just need to kill the nest volatiles which are stuck in the floor. It's pretty obvious but I couldn't figure out how and got overwhelmed when I tried it before. You need to find one, kill it quickly, use its body to camo, then find the next one. Probably the best advice is that they will show up on your mini-map as an arrow, like the regular volatiles, BUT they won't have a cone of sight around them like the regular volatiles. Wander around looking for an arrow with no cone of sight and it will probably be a floorstuck nest volatile. You might find a spitter or feral instead but you can just do a silent takedown and use its body to camo more.

You can pretty much ignore the regular volatiles, but now and then they will flip out and attack you, and you should have a shotgun or powerful melee weapon to get rid of them quickly. Generally if you keep camo-ing from the floorstuck volatiles, you shouldn't need to worry about the regular volatiles, but sometimes your camo runs out or you fall in water (which washes the camo off) or whatever.

Some of the easier nests will have just a few volatiles and a ton of regular zombies or ferals wandering around. Just use them for camo purposes and take down the regular volatiles if you want.

Basically unless you are totally leveled up from the base game, you should probably wait to deal with nests until later in the game when you have better weapons and a good auto-shotgun. I have maxed out power, legendary rank 2, and am 1 point away from maxing out survivor skills, and I am just now getting weapons that let me kill a volatile easily.

Also I really don't know what the deal is with the bombs. I only ever found one in a nest which was in a railway tunnel with an exit at both ends. Since then I've cleared out several nests, all of which were either in dead-end train tunnels or in caves, and none of them had bombs that I could find.

So really just focus on killing the floor volatiles. I hope that helps some people.

I found that throwing flares the advanced ones make it very easy to kill the hunters then 2 or 3 hits with a good weapon for nice exp and you have room to move and reapply the camouflage which i was impressed how easy it was after i lured one away to kill it for the camo. I guessed it would be impossible but it was easy that way. Some are that attack frenzy that they fall to death into the water below just make sure that you dispose those that make the jump to your side. Ah and btw at some point a timer starts to tick till you need to destroy the nest i think it has to do with day time comin back and its a bad time to be there then if the nest is still intact.

usually zombies dont react when your killin another zombie while your camouflaged but it seems in the nest are different rules or they get faster aggro if you want to go for it try to neckbreak em and camo every time instantly anew and your walkin almost unharmed . while the problem seem to be the already pissed ones that are fiercingly running around touching those to do the neckbreak needs good timing and can be tricky sometimes. Good is that out of camo you can kill a nighthunter with about 3 strikes of a weapon .i found this not possible as i tried that in harran.
