Nightmare mode not difficult, but frustrating?
I'm fine with all the changes to Nightmare mode, base game is too easy.

However, I have 2500/2700 damage weapons, and I'm max rank in all stats. A single, non viral, normal zombie, takes like 6-7 hits to kill, even hitting the head.

Why bullet sponge enemies? Or melee sponge? Make them deadly, up their damage as shown, but they should die easier too. Basically I shouldn't be able to wade into the thick of it and mow them down without being seriously at risk.

However, now, it's just kinda like "Meh", I mean unless the new weapons are crazy 10,000 damage weapons, this is kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

ok so here's my issue: virals.

They are known to be the fast but weak enemies, but despite me building the best weapons i can get at whatever level i am in nightmare, they are usually a "leave the area" trigger. because there is no use in fighting an enemy that can do 1/3 my health per swing, and has way more health than the average unarmored walker. not to mention i have had countless times where viral attacks are so quickly triggered, that despite successfully parry with a shield or grabbing their head for a grapple, you still take the damage as if the attack landed.

There are mechanics to this game, and to make the player understand them and work with them (OR ELSE!!!!) would be a fun nightmare mode. but I know what spawns virals, and yet if i quietly peruse a town trying to complete a mission and AVOID ALL VIRAL SPAWN TRIGGERS, I can still have 3-6 virals trailing me by the end of it. And there is no way for me to kill that large of a crowd, so i just have to give up on whatever i am doing and run until they despawn (which by the way, can sometimes just spawn more of them). If i walked through towns guns blazing and had a crowd come after me, i'd understand. but i do nothing but quick and silent take downs (btw, why on earth does snapping a neck take half stamina???? not a fun addition, just vapid and boring) but still get surrounded by the time i am at my destination. I still play on nightmare, because it does a lot of things right. But the viral spawns are just so over the top and annoying. This is not a good game play mechanic, it is something that drives me away from playing the game.

The difficulty options are kind of wack. Normal is too easy, Hard is great, but you miss out on awesome weapons, nightmare is just a bullet sponge hell.

I switch back and forth from hard to nightmare. Hard to play, and Nightmare to shop for weapons/ammo and items.

Whoa, that's a thing?!
Actually, you lose a fixed percentage of your total XP, not all. I've lost count of how many millions I've lost :steamfacepalm:

On nightmare, I do think you lose all legendary XP going to the next level. At least I did, for the 20 minutes I tried nightmare mode :steamsad: Although in my defence, I tried nightmare mode during the night only and fought some volatiles so I died a few times. Each time, my legend XP went back down to zero instead of just a percentage of what I had already accumulated by killing the slower zombies.

You may well be correct. I've only played one game on Nightmare and that was some time ago ( I find Hard to be more fun overall ).

Yes, Nightmare Mode will remove all current XP to the next level when you die....really sux especially when you're into Legend Levels that take a few million to achieve the next LL...

But...the added XP you get in that mode more than make up for the losses you take from time to time. It would have taken me forever to get to LL250 if I hadn't started going out at Night in Nightmare Mode.

My expectation upon playing Nightmare is to get the game scared the ♥♥♥♥ out of me and the biggest yet satisfying challenge to beat the game but what I get is frustration. Im not having a "nigthtmare" facing the zombies or bandits but I feel anger everytime bs hit the ceilling. This is just like Ubisoft The Division game, higher difficulty means sponge enemies instead of making them smarter and deadlier, yes they can kill you easily in Dying Light compared to The Division but you get my point. Therefore, I must admit that Hard difficulty is where you get the complete fun of it.

Noob on noob.. stop cry on game Nightmare+ and learn finally how to play..
Farm / get usefull items and use propetly weapons stop use guns which make loud shots same as granades and dont blame later why you have toons virlas on neck.

You can kill thme very very easy if you just use your brain... wait... have you it ?!
For example

1) use finisher on spikes trap/baricades by judo you no need even use weapon for insta kill him

2)play in cat and mouse jump ofer build or clim wall and use kick finisher for instanly kill jump to other build if virals are too much wait till climb up and kill next one and next.. if still to much jump back on same build or they other and use kick finisher once again.

3)after kill one you can use fast thier blood for making myself invisible or use cloack potion. they will rush to you but they will dont atack you till you dont make specific one some dmg/atack.

4)Playing in night is more easier just dont make Volatile load agression on you.. stop walk like santa cow... When virals will atack you and you need still go use Zaids flares basicaly they will run away from uv zone. you can throw flare 1 by 1 to make you 100% safe way From Point A to B
You can even atak 1 and he will dont offen counter atack you back if you fight with him unde Zaids flare and other will not help him bc scared of uv from Zaids flare.

5)Stop using explosion/guns and granadies/firecacker or oher what make big sound bc it will bring virals

6)dont run across half map with virals on neck bc thier screem will brinh more virals from other new sectors, kill them near place where you alreadyy begin catched by virals.

7)Bow is good weapon expetialy for noobs viral even on nighmatere plus still die from 1 headshot
bow have auto aim correction "same mechanic as on console players good for noobs which cant make good aim you can shot a bit about head and game will still corect it as headshot ^^ )

Summary:
Dying light its not f*** duke nuken or painkiller stop walk across center street like santa cow and shot from loud guns etc. go play like hide and sneak,

I just hope the death from parkour fail doesn't receive the full panelty (xp wipe). The parkour system in this game is excellent but not perfect, there has been and will be derpy and glitchy moment when crane won't grab on things or land on the solid the ground next to the garbage pile.

Back to the new shotgun, it is so powerful right now whenever I got xp wiped I flied into a rage and spent a whole night blasting volatiles in their faces and were getting around one lvl per night.
Sorry for reviving an old thread, but what was this new shotgun that is so good agaisnt volatiles?

Uhh have any of you seen the difference in damage dealt to you between normal and nightmare difficulty? And the fact that moves like Stomp or NeckBreak now consume stamina (they don't on Hard)

Like, were you expecting to just insta-kill every single enemy with your melee weapon? I don't get it

Cuz if you WERE to do that, then you would again COMPLAIN about how easy nightmare mode is that you can just insta kill anyone from range. Like, yeah, enemies have more hp, they do more dmg. Changing their AI according to difficulty setting especially in an open world setting is very challenging

So yeah, I personally don't get the complaints, but maybe that's just me. Whatever.

p.s. oh sh*t I just noticed that OP posted this in 2016 loool

Btw if someone is having difficulty facing multiple virals just toss a firecracker or something. While they are turning away, either run or go neckbreak them. You can also apply that Mama's whatever her name was potion made out of bolter tissue. That can stop virals

I don't mind trying to be more careful for not dying, (sometimes you just can help it because a bug kill you, or a bandit with perfect accuracy kills you in 1 second without even bein able to notice it), but being forced to use fire weapons for being able to defend myself is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and not fun. My best 1 handed weapon does 3k damage, and it takes 5 hits to kill a normal zombie, using stamina on the way and risking my XP by exposing myself to close quarters, then i swap to my 6k damage shotgun and it kills everything in one headshot, demolishers in 3, and goons in 2.

Terrible balance. I just found myself never using melee anymore and not giving a ♥♥♥♥ about melee weapons.
if your melee is doign only 3k dmg max then you are doing somethign terribly wrong.

Using shield in PvE is a mistake, and 6 virals are hardly a problem if you have some legend levels (spended in single handed wep dmg and stamina), you use upgrades to boost their dmg (and give them elemental effect). Also what paly BIG roll in this game on nightmere are boosters.

actually most weapons on Survivor Rank 25 do under 3k dmg easily, only some coming close, so no, he isn't really doing anything wrong. He is prolly using mediocre weapons, not the orange/yellow (dockets) ones, and you can't always put 6 dmg to weapons in modifications, so yeah.

uhh techland developed all the thing for dying light PVE, not PVP as far as I'm concerned. Shield helps against humans a lots, and I believe that was the primary design

also, how exactly do boosters increase your damage/dps? One is for sprinting speed, the other one for dmg reduction, the other one is night vision, the other is just a healing recipe that you get. So...am I missing smth or boosters don't directly affect any dmg output?
blues182 Sep 17, 2020 @ 5:34pm
I think the night hunter potion from "be the zombie" might do dmg boost, idk though as i only have 2 from doing the prison heist dlc and havn't used them yet.
