To the OP, first get rid of the standard bow... it's terrible.
Get a Bozak's Bow (i can craft you one), it has more damage and draw speed and I think less impact on gravity full drawn.
With it you can just hold mouse 1 without aiming and you will hit the head 80% of the time because of its assist

Yes, there does seem to be some aim assist for the bow, and yes it does seem to be at least partially broken. The scenario you describe (aim, hit the chest, aim a tiny bit higher, pass over head) is something I see all the time.
Also, the arrow drop in this game is ridiculous. I've fired actual bows, and the rate of drop in Dying Light is way beyond reality. If you aim at a head 10 ft away, you should hit that head. Games seem bad at getting arrow drop right; Overwatch seems closer to reality, while Skyrim seems to skew the other way.
YES!
I bought a blue bow from the shop, and it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane how bad it is, I just draw at maximum and drops like 5-7 meters, it's a piece of ♥♥♥♥, wtf? the bow is totally useless, are all the bows like this?
