Seemed to be better wthout them
As an archer myself I'm always disappointed when games have dinky bows. One reason I enjoy Far Cry 3/4 so much is because you can play almost exclusively with the bow.
As it stands, the bow is only useful for cheesing strong monsters (Behemoth and Bezelthing) just stood there while I shot them in the face with arrows for paltry damage, but even then, the laughable damage isn't even worth the time investment. Maybe down the line if I'm able to unlock some Rambo explosive-tipped arrows I'll revisit the weapon. Until then, it's a piece of junk and should never have been added in the game if they weren't going to do it right.
The crossbow can shoot very far, and has a scope, but is pretty useless at close range because of the long reload. That is actually where the regular and Bozak bows shine, with them you can rapidly headshot many zombies in quick succession.
You can get hit in melee and your melee weapons break. Close range shots with the bow can take enemies down before they get close enough to hit you and the bow doesn't have any durability to lose. And honestly speaking I prefer shooting to slashing. After a little while in the Following I practically stopped using melee weapons entirely.
***
Shotguns were useful when the EE / The Following dropped, but that might have changed a bit with the patch which also reduced the magnitude of the Legend points for gun damage.
The Following also adds a few new shotguns. There's a pump-action Hunting Shotgun, and a couple of Semi-Automatic shotguns.
Incendiary arrows have consistently been absolutely useless at all points. The other arrows are much better. I've used Electric arrows, for instance, to stun a pair of Rais's thugs, then quick-swapped to normal arrows to headshot them before they could open fire and alert other enemies.
Explosive arrows are hilarious and awesome. The Flammable Liquid blueprint I think I've seen from the safe house merchant at the Taurus gas station near the Stuffed Turtle.
It's a shame that fire arrows are so useless because the moment I jumped off the cliff after starting The Following and found my first zombie-infested field, Farcry 2 popped into my head and all I've wanted to do since then is light the fields on fire and watch all the zombies burn. I guess I'll just have to settle with running them over.
also about arrows, incinerating arrows seem to be the crappiest (even Molotov's are better), first in top 3, explosive is second & electric is 3th cause electric u can use atleas for disabeling enemys for short time, i do better with mellee & guns, well i do better even with normal arrows, electric arrows can be usefull in some places so they are bit usefull atleast, but the other 2 is waste of Arrows & money, they should fix it, also i feel like incinerating & explosive arrows became even more crappier after i got all DLC'S & upgraded to enhanced edition
i do wish i could reset few legebdary points, i discoverd that HP upgrade is pointless, it gives so little, more usefull to upgrade weapons
