As already mentioned in the title, here's proof that you can kill volatiles at nightmare difficulty, even if you have zero points in your Legend Level.

I was going to make this video anyway, but I had a discussion with a few people in this forum a couple of week ago and some were convinced that you could only kill volatiles (at nightmare difficulty) if you had an extremely high legend level. So I changed my video a little and used a character that didn't even have legend levels unlocked...

I also include an extremely fast way to level up Legend levels and it does not include using glitches in any way. Just good old fashioned grinding lol. But it is still the fastest way to level up in the game (that I'm aware of) and worth a try in my opinion, especially if you keep losing Legend XP by constantly dying in The Following DLC.

Best way is to,lurk them into aproximity of a lake or sea, call their attention, let them climb the wall, kick in their head and wait to see major fail of'em.

Sounds like this would work only at a specific location. Where did you try this?

Infamy bridge, dark caves,in the The Following everywhere is possible,in Old Town ( Sector 0 ),every high building near the river.
Is obvious.

Dark Caves? You would get overrun eventually, especially at nightmare difficulty. As for high buildings, they come at you from all directions, so again, you would be overrun. And if they can't reach you, they will just decimate you with their acid spit.

I'm not saying I don't believe you, because I too have kicked volatiles off of cliffs inside caves, but was overrun and had to use cloak to escape. The question is, can you do what you are saying and stay alive indefinitely? Seeing is believing, so until I see a clip of you successfully kicking them into the ocean, and surviving, I will remain sceptical ;-)

But once you are being pursued, more volatiles will join the chase. So best case, you eventually have to deal with at least five volatiles, plus some night hunters. Worst case, you will get an endless amount of volatiles to deal with lol. So checking beforehand is not much use, I'm afraid.

But I am interested in seeing you do what you are saying. So any chance you can upload a clip?

I liked your video, and others you have made. But to be fair here, you seem to have moved the goal posts a little when responding to this guy. Your topic was just - is it possible to kill volatiles in nm at low level. In which case his response seems valid. Then after his response, you shift a little to - can you do it indefinitely without ever dying.

But the whole point of the video was to not only kill the volatiles at nightmare difficulty, but to also stay alive afterwards. Which is the only way you can farm XP, because if you die, you will lose any Legend XP or Survivor bonus you might have at that point.

But I suppose if you haven't seen the video, or read the title of the video, you could argue that I am indeed moving the goal posts, which was not my intention.

Yep, I think maybe someone just saw the topic and first post and responded, is all. I watched the video so I know what you meant. You could have just responded by clarifying your intent, which was to be able to kill them ad infinitum in safety which is quite different.

Night Hunters are only enabled if you are playing online,I've stopped 3 months ago.

Also it might be somewhat on topic to note that a volatile on nm can be killed with a single toxic trap bomb, if they are very close to it and stand in it the entire duration for some reason (such as standing at the entrance of the safe zone). Toxic trap bombs become craftable at Survivor level 11.

Don't the trap bombs go off after a short period of time? I tried using Kurt's bombs and found them rather ineffective. The land mines are so much better.

Talking about toxic weapons, I've noticed the toxic bolt can finish off volatiles pretty quickly too. I didn't use them due to friendly fire at close range so I'm not sure how effective they really are.

Sorry, I meant night walkers. The one's who behave a lot like virals.

Yeah, they go off after doing a firecracker thing for a few seconds. Now that I think about it though, it might have been a night walker I saw die (I was watching the skeletons through survivor vision.) And you have to be far away or on the other side of a barrier to pull it off or else you will take big damage too.

The only way I pulled it off once was I had just evaded pursuit by grappling over one of those 20' tall green barriers on the side of a bridge. They stopped on the other side. So I sat and watched their orange outlines with survivor sense, as they stood there looking for me. On impulse I decided to see if I could toss a bomb over the barrier. It worked. And I watched one of the orange figures convulse and die. However, as I said, now that i think about it, it may have just been a night walker (since you can't see the difference in survivor vision).

Yes, it's pretty easy to confuse the night walkers with volatiles, especially when they are the orange skeletons. A rip off of Batman's Detective vision, no? Lol.
