[Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS] The game won't launch
Hello! I'm trying to play Dying Light on Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS. I have Mesa Drivers 18.2.2 and this is my rig:

i5-4430
RX 480 8GB
8GB RAM

The game had a compatibility issue (the game would have popped up a message talking about outdated OpenGL libraries or something along those lines, then attempting to load and crashing to desktop) that prevented it from launching. This issue was fixed by updating Mesa drivers to 18.2.2, no more popup message. However, the game still won't launch. Overriding OpenGL through Steam launch settings does nothing.

The game prepares itself for launch, a white bar appears on the bottom of the initial black screen, it fully loads and then the game closes to the desktop. AMDGPU-Pro drivers actually fix this, but performance is absolutely dreadful compared to Dying Light performance with AMD's open source drivers. Every other game works perfectly, DL is the only one which simply refuses to start. Did anyone else face the same problem? Is there a solution without using the proprietary drivers?

Okay, try this command in your "Game Launch Options"

MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=4.5 MESA_GLSL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=450 %command%

Dying Light Linux native version is unfortunately not very good, has bugs and performance issues. Use Steam Play (Proton) instead for a better experience with much improved performance.

You already have access to the windows version, Just enable Proton and go from there, as for me, I'm still working on getting the native version to run.

Try forcing it to use the steam linux runtime. after fiddling for a few hours, it launched. Single Player and Multiplayer seem to work fine. No crashes but I didn't run for long.

How do I force it to use Proton? Heck, I'm new to Linux but I can't believe they did a worse job on Linux than the macOS version.

Game properties, bottom option.

Well, well, well...waddya know, works and works well...there's crazy bloom effects I never saw in the macOS version. There's an annoying little stutter but it's very playable.

Thanks again
